2.1.7 TLS issues
Hi, I have an interesting problem: I am building dovecot packages for Ubuntu since 10.04. Never had bigger trouble with it. Now since 2.1.6 or 2.1.7 (I can not say more precisely), Thunderbird 10ESR and Outlook 2010 can no longer use 143/TLS correctly. Automx delvers 143/TLS and Outlook tells me that it can not create a secure connection. I changed automx to use 993/SSL and everything works.

Login auth strip domain from username
Hi, I have just discovered that the IMAP account setup wizard in outlook 2019 assumes that the email address for a user is the same as their username, and there is no easy way to separately enter different user. (It can be done via hidden dialog boxes, command line switches and registry hacking, but it is far from easy [1]) Like many small setups, the dovecot accounts on my mail server map

Thunderbird supports SPECIAL-USE (Merry x-mas!)
I've waited about two years to write this mail... :) As of Dezember, 24th Mozilla Thunderbird can handle SPECIAL-USE. The patch, which adds the required functionality, has passed review and TBs nightly build was successful. The next official Thunderbird release (version 38, release date 2015-05-19) will very likely ship SPECIAL-USE included. \o/ SPECIAL USE is an IMAP extension. It means

Dear All, I have few question regarding dovecot configuration for specific need which are as follows:- 1. I have IMAP folder with the name Sent Mail and i want whenever client uses any MUA to send mail from my server his mail must be kept in server's IMAP folder which is Sent Mail instead of local Sent folder. 2. "important" flag
I'm wondering what I'd need to do to get the "important" flag set on an incoming message according to a pre-specified header. I know the problem of this not being a "joined-up" feature in standard email, but in practice many MUAs set headers like X-priority etc, and IMAP has an "important" flag that is the obvious mapping. I'm not really sure where

Question about the pop3 feature "leave messages on server for a certain period of time"
Hi all I am missing something on the the pop3 "leave messages" rationale. Although the UIDL feature solves for the MUA the problem "whch mails should be downloaded", how the duration that these mails should be kept on server, say 10 days for one MUA and 20 days for another MUA for the same account, is resolved on the server? thanks in advance -- ????????? ???????????

RE: Question on folders
I have read and read the dovecot docs on maildir folders and think that this is what I want. However, the MUA programs that I use, SylpheedClaws, Evolution, Mozilla seem to react differently to how I setup the folders. Is there a good FAQ on this subject somewhere? I think that I want to setup a virtual domain and am looking for documents. Alex

Future enhancement of imap: sorting?
After solving a problem with a sweet little application I discovered (more on that below), I wanted to get some feedback about a potential enhancement for IMAP: standardized, MUA independant, server-side sorting. Currently, there are two basic solutions for sorting: handle it during delivery or handle it in the MUA. However, if you handle it in the MUA, you lose some of the client

dovecot and avahi
I am trying to figure out if I need avahi on my mail server. I see that POP3 and IMAP are services that Avahi can advertise/discover. Does Dovecot work with Avahi and how do you get POP3 and IMAP advertised? And perhaps more importantly, what clients look for mail services this way? I can't find any information on this in the Dovecot documentation ot googling. Perhaps my search fu is

new to dovecot, dealing with MH foders
Hello, I'm sorry if this is a repeat, a few choice searches into google didn't help and I found no search for the archives. I can no longer put of moving away from UW-IMAP. Dovecot certainly seems to be the right choice, but I am having problems getting it to do what I need it to for all my mail. The machine is running the dist version, 0.99.12. I have a system mailbox and a large MH

Performance with 200k messages in Maildir
What should I expect performance-wise if I put 200000 messages in a Maildir store and use two or three MUAs (mutt and Thunderbird), on an Athlon dual core 2GHz with SATA drives in software RAID (Linux)? Like; would it be useless/crawling, usable or pretty fast. I imagine MUA startup / first time folder read would be slow, but daily use more or less ok. Thanks to Dovecot's indexing, I imagine

Per-folder (per-mailbox) message expiration with control from client side — is it possible?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA512 I'm migrating from ?old skool? solution with one mail client (MUA) on one computer, which retrieves mail via POP3, sorts it and manages it locally to installation when there are several MUAs on different devices, accessing mail via IMAP4, and all sorting and management should be server-side. Sorting is ?easy?: sieve. Here are some nuisance

reply-to address of the list
Hi, is there a chance to alter the list behaviour to not use the sender address of a posting in the reply-to field but dovecot at dovecot.org instead? That way one has to either use "reply to all" in the MUA or manually enter dovecot at dovecot.org in any replies. And a "reply to all" duplicates postings because the posting once goes to the list and once to the original

removing uid, index and cache files
Since a couple of days we're facing a problem with dovecot/MUA and multiple appeareances of single mails. The mail is physical existant only once but outlook shows it twice or more times. Then after some minutes these multiple "virtual" mails just disappear. Because this happens with different MUAs (Outlook and Thunderbid) I assume dovecot causes the problem. All mail are received

Dovecot vs Exim file locking
Hi all: We're planning to deploy a large e-mail system storing maildirs in a NAS system through NFS. One of the options we're thinking on is using Dovecot+EXIM. As far as I've read in both project's documentation, both services implement locking allowing multiple servers to access the same maildirs in order to distribute the service load. However, I can't find any information
