lazy_expuge + mdbox
To a degree I agree .. given mdbox doesnt delete until purge .. but then
would be nice if purge took a dovecot search rather than just ditch
everything with refcount=0 ... in that way could say purge everything
thats been marked as delete according to a specified criteria.

Recovering expunged but not purged e-mails from mdbox with zlib compression
You can use mdbox_deleted driver to access mails with refcount 0. See

mdbox and doveadm purge
Hi,
We are currently testing Dovecot 2.0.13 with mdbox. If I delete large
objects with refcount=0 the index is not updated apparently.
Here's an example:
[root at mail-004 storage]# ls -l
total 194776
-rw------- 1 vmail vmail 482960 Jul 9 14:58 dovecot.map.index
-rw------- 1 vmail vmail 4584 Jul 9 16:06 dovecot.map.index.log

Recovering expunged but not purged e-mails from mdbox with zlib compression
Yesterday I had to recover an e-mail which a user had deleted. If I
understand this correctly the message was expunged but not purged
(doveadm purge had not been run).
This e-mail was clearly still in the mdbox stored with zlib compression
as I could tell using the doveadm dump command (doveadm dump -t dbox
filename).
I could however not reveal the e-mail with the normal doveadm fetch -u

How to purge mailboxes manually [dovecot_1.2.15]
Hi,
we have a linux network at the office. Mainly ubuntu and debian
systems.
Each user has it's own mail client, thunderbird, evolution, etc.
In the mail server we use as the local delivery agent, dovecot 1.2.15
and the protocol imap.
The users mailbox are in the server at /var/mail.
Due to some kind of problem the mails that are set for delete in the
mail client are not being

doveadm purge on shared storage
We've finally (!) started to put some users on mdbox instead of maildir,
and now I'm wondering about the purge step. As we're running GPFS for the
mailboxes (and dovecot director in front of every dovecot service), is
it important to run the "doveadm purge -u $user" on the same host as
$user is logged into to avoid index corruption ?
If so, will we need to run the

mdbox expunge purge question
Hi,
I'm testing Dovecot 2.0rc2 with mdbox mail format and I'm not sure
what this exactly means:
http://wiki2.dovecot.org/MailboxFormat/dbox
Quote from wiki page:
=====
Expunging a message only decreases the message's refcount. The space
is later freed in "purge" step. This may be done automatically within
the session or later in a nightly cronjob when there's less

.EXPUNGED/Trash folder .. however if I set
lazy_expunge_only_last_instance = yes then dont seem to get ANY copy ..
just nothing.
2) If I go into Trash and

mdbox "doveadm purge" strategy
Hi there.
I am using mdbox storage with great success but I am seeing something I
find strange and I would like to compare notes with you.
When doing "doveadm purge", "m.*" files with non deleted messages are
left alone, but "m.*" files with deleted messages copy the "non deleted"
messages to a newly created "m.*" file and delete the original.

Nagios purge deleted items and notify nagios service problem
I am using stored configs to manage my nagios host and services checks and
I have run into a problem that I have been unable to solve. When the
stored configs are purged from puppet the nagios server correctly removes
them from the services and hosts file but does not notify the nagios
service and instead throws an error. So the entries are still there and
nagios still reports on them until

UID Purge?
Hi,
I've just migrated to Dovecot from cyrus-imapd, and I notice that when I
move emails from one folder to another they appear to be automatically
marked deleted (expected) and also purged (not expected). With cyrus, I
am used to emails being marked deleted, but still existing until a
manual purge (expunge).
Is this normal behaviour with Dovecot, and is it configurable?
Thanks.
Kevin.

Disk space usage with mdbox
Did you "purged" the deleted mails for this user?
On mdbox you must run "doveadm purge -u $USER" to whipe out any as deleted marked mails etc.
Details: http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Tools/Doveadm/Purge
I use a nightly cronjob wor this.
