maildir vs dbox?
I'm facing some issues on mdbox based backups. Backups are failing with dbox corruption messages. SiS is the greatest advantage though. However backups integrity is very important. If SiS/Deduplication is not a requirement stick to Maildir. Corrupted dbox file around offset= EOF reading msg header
Hello Dovecoters, I am using dovecot-2.2.10-8.el7.x86_64 on RHEL 7.4 When I backup mdboxes (using SIS) using this command doveadm -Dv -o plugin/quota= sync -1f -u user1 at user.com mdbox:/mailbackup/user1 mails get backedup but all m files are not copied. Last file copied is m.4 If I run the command again I get below error I tried with doveadm backup command as well (many times).

Moving from MBOX to Maildir or DBox ?
Hello Actually we use MBOX format for all our IMAP access but users complain they cannot create subfolders in imap folders, of course they cannot because of MBOX format ... I need gurus advices on changing mailbox format Maildir of Dbox ? What would be the safest way to go ? Note : we extensively use Thunderbird here. Thanks

Convert Maildir to Dbox?
Hello, I've got a Dovecot 2.3.x setup. Currently it's running Maildir storage. I'd like to convert that to Dbox specifically Sdbox safely. I'm also looking to at the same time or shortly thereafter encrypt the email storage with mail_crypt. Any help appreciated. Thanks. Dave.

users of dbox format
I am interested in finding out your experiences with using the dbox format (especially mdbox) if you use this format. I am contemplating changing my maildir setup to mdbox but I still need to make a case for it against maildir which has become a de-facto standard and provides sort of a secure basis in case of software changes. Your input will be appreciated. -- Andreas Kasenides Senior IT

Rsync to backup dbox with SIS
We will be deploying a replacement Dovecot server soon, and we are planning to use maildir for the primary storage, but with an archive namespace using mdbox (or perhaps sdbox), and SIS. Our backup servers and (luke)warm spare server need to obtain full copies of the mail store. For the maildirs I know I can simply use rsync (we already use it here). I'm a little wary of using rsync with

(Single instance) attachment storage with single-dbox
Just a note to myself and whoever else cares, should be added to wiki once it has its own page about this: With single-dbox messages can be copied with hard linking. This means that there can be multiple files that point to the same attachment file. The attachment is now deleted only once the mail file's link count drops to zero, so this works fine.. ..until someone goes and starts manually

Convert Maildir to Dbox?
Hello, Thanks. Are there any performance or stability advantages Sdbox over Maildir? I'm also thinking ease of encryption an Sdbox or Mdbox vs Maildir? Thanks. Dave. maildir vs dbox?

One reason why I migrated a few sites is that when reporting issues with maildir on this list, there seems to be lack of interest in fixing them. In that regard, it can be seen as a safer choice.

(Single instance) attachment storage
Now that v2.0.0 is only waiting for people to report bugs (and me to figure out how to fix them), I've finally had time to start doing what I actually came here (Portugal Telecom/SAPO) to do. :) The idea is to have dbox and mdbox support saving attachments (or MIME parts in general) to separate files, which with some magic gives a possibility to do single instance attachment storage. Migrating from Maildir to dbox+SIS... sdbox or mdbox?
Ok... Now that I've got the niggling issues resolved, on to bigger and better things. I want to convert everyone from Maildir to dbox and enable SIS (our users use a lot of large attachments), and after some reading/googling, I think it may be better to use dsync instead of rsync for the actual migration after all since it will do this at the same time as the syncing. If I'm not

dbox verses maildir - advantages/disadvantages
I am migrating our mail server from Courier-IMAP to Dovecot. We currently use maildir storage format. What are the advantages and disadvantages of Dovecot's dbox format over maildir? Does anyone have any performance benchmarks for both? What do people use to test performance? We are running on a Mac OS X box (10.5.7) using Postfix 2.6. Thanks, James.

Any suggestions for backing up an imap server and whould maildir or dbox be better than mbox?
Hi, we run a Red Hat EL 5.2 mailserver with dovecot as the imap server. Mails are stored in mbox format and there are about 134GB of mail. At the moment users copy their importent mail to their workstation accounts wich are backed up nightly. What are your suggestions to back up the mails not copied? Thanks for any comments. BTW: Dose changing the mailbox format from mbox to Maildir or dbox
