Authentification fails in dovecot 2.3.0.1
Hi
I've upgraded dovecot from 2.2.22 to 2.3.0.1. Now I can't authenticate
any
longer. My mail client says that the user name and password are rejected
by
dovecot.
I get this line in /var/log/auth.log:
Mar 6 19:28:02 desktop auth: PAM audit_log_acct_message() failed:
Operation not permitted
And this in /var/log/dovecot.log:
Mar 06 19:28:02 auth: Debug: Loading modules from directory:

Re: Upgrade to 2.3.0.1 bre aks server
Another remark:
I have installed the new version from the PPA provided by dovecot.org:
deb https://repo.dovecot.org/ce-2.3-latest/ubuntu/xenial xenial main
Before (2.2.22) I had installed it from the ubuntu (canonical) package
sources - and not the PPA provided by dovecot.org.
Could it be, that the two don't play together?
Bye

Segfault of doveconf
Sorry to bother again, but the problem persist.
I have checked all the configurations of dovecot, and seems all ok, but randomly the segfault pops up again, without no apparently reason.
My packages are:
ii dovecot-core 1:2.2.22-1ubuntu2.10 amd64 secure POP3/IMAP server - core files
ii dovecot-imapd 1:2.2.22-1ubuntu2.10

Can’t authenticate any users after upgrade.
I?m in the process of upgrading an old server from Fedora 21 to something more modern. Now, Dovecot won?t let any client login to get their email.
PAM audit_log_acct_message() failed: Operation not permitted
imap-login: Disconnected (AUTH failed, 2 attempts in 10 secs): user=<username>, method=PLAIN, rip=192.168.1.94 lip=192.168.1.94, TLS, session=<sessionid>

Antispam plugin: insufficent error messages
Hi!
"Dovecot always logs a detailed error message if something goes wrong.
If it doesn't, it's considered a bug and will be fixed." (http://
wiki2.dovecot.org/Logging)
I'm trying to set up a spam filter with dovecot-antispam and dspam as backend.
When I move a spam message from INBOX to Spam, I get this in syslog:

weird winbind problem
I'm setting up a samba server that should authenticate against a samba
3.0 +Ldap PDC server.
This is the situation
1) getenet passwd and getent group are ok
2) wbinfo -t -> checking the trust secret via RPC calls succeeded
3) wbinfo -g -> lists all the groups on PDC (nice!)
4) wbinfo -u -> lists all the users on PDC (nice again!)
the problem is wbinfo -a

r-base-dev not installing in Ubuntu 16.04
I have recently re-installed R on my Ubuntu system to get R 3.5 and found
this to have worked:
# you may need to remove incumbent repos e.g. with:
sudo apt-add-repository --remove ppa:marutter/rrutter
# add new repos
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:marutter/rrutter3.5 # for base R
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:marutter/c2d4u4.5 # for pkgs - this saved me
lots of time installing my set-up
