USB Disk
I put a new server together with CentOS 4. This server is doing a number of functions including ntp, mail, and web server. I had a USB drive plugged in and it was working great. I could access it at /media/usbdisk and I copied lots of data to it. I felt the server was "complete" so I wanted to move it. I shut it down, moved it, etc. Everything is ok, except that I cannot access the

User directories and groups usage
Morning everyone. I was playing around today with our PDC setup. One thing I noticed is that when I setup users to have their 'My Documents' directory be /home/<user> everything works well. One thing I noticed is that the directory, subdirectories and files have the owner of the user and the group as per assigned, and permissions as 700. If I wanted to set it up so a specific

Problems connecting to APC/Smart-UPS 3000 RM
Hi all, I have an APC/Smart-UPS 3000 RM that I am trying to connect to nut via the usb port. I have nut running just fine on several other machines using APC ups's via the serial ports but this usb thing is making me crazy. If I do a "/sbin/newhidups -u root -D -a PS1" it recgonizes the ups and dumps a bunch of information like below: (porky pts12) # /sbin/newhidups -u root -D -D

finding older rpms
I'm on a fairly old RHEL box, when I "cat /proc/version", I get the following: Linux version 2.4.21-4.ELsmp (bhcompile at daffy.perf.redhat.com) (gcc version 3.2.3 20030502 (Red Hat Linux 3.2.3-20)) At this stage, I guess I don't have 'yum', so where exactly do I get the individual RPMs? I went to DAG to find some stuff I needed, but some of the rpms at

Problems using gamlss to model zero-inflated and overdispersed count data: "the global deviance is increasing"
Dear all, I am using gamlss (Package gamlss version 4.0-0, R version 2.10.1, Windows XP Service Pack 3 on a HP EliteBook) to relate bird counts to habit variables. However, most models fail because “the global deviance is increasing” and I am not sure what causes this behaviour. The dataset consists of counts of birds (duck) and 5 habit variables measured in the field (n= 182). The dependent

Different varable lengths
Hi! I'm trying to do a lm() test on three objects. My problem is that R protests and says that the variable lengths differ for one of the objects (Sweden.GDP.gap). But I have double checked that the number of observations are the same. All three objects should contain 9 observations but R only accepts 9 observations in two of the objects. The third must have 10! Very confusing because there

Hi All, I'm trying to migrate from an NT4 domain to samba-3... sorry this is so long... when I run the "net rpc vampire" I get errors for users and machines in uppercase or contain uppercase chars. tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME
Hi, I can't get access to any shares when running "smbclient //DUCK/test -U Dominic". I'm getting the message: tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME I'm pretty sure it's authenticating properly as it says "session setup ok" in the debug output. If I enter the wrong password I get: "session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE" I'm

Mail delivery failing with 450
I'm not sure why this started, but apparently I'm having a DNS problem. Yesterday mail started bouncing with this error: 450 Unable to find obrien-pifer.com I think the messages eventually get delivered, but not sure. I guess I'll see if this one makes the list. I checked my domain using http://www.checkdns.net/ and it gives me a couple warnings. One is that there's no MX
