current zfs tuning in RELENG_7 (AMD64) suggestions ?
I gave the AMD64 version of 7.2 RC2 a spin and all installed as
expected off the dvd
INTEL S3200SHV MB, Core2Duo, 4G of RAM
In the past it had been suggested that for zfs tuning, something like
vm.kmem_size_max="1073741824"
vm.kmem_size="1073741824"
vfs.zfs.prefetch_disable=1
However doing a simple test with bonnie and dd, there does not seem
to be very much difference in

snort, postgres, bridge
I've been prowling through the FreeBSD and Snort list archives in
search of information on setting up snort on a FreeBSD bridge(4)
that logs to a remote postgres box via a third interface (hme0)
Snort is being started with the following command:
/usr/local/bin/snort -A full -D -e -d -s -i fxp0 -c /usr

Where fxp0 and fxp1 are in the bridge

[SO]HO Software RAID5 server: which implementation should I choice?
Hello, freebsd-stable.
Does somebody use some software RAID5 on FreeBSD in real production
system?
I want to build storage server for my home: RAW photos, multi-layer
PhotoShop files and FLAC-encoded music consume a lot of space, and
they should be availible both from desktop & notebook.
Also, all photo-content is unique, so I need some insuranse from

Function for ddply
Hello, all. I'm new to R and just beginning to learn to write functions. I
know I'm out of my depth posting here, and I'm sure my issue is mundane.
But here goes. I'm analyzing the American National Election Study (nes),
looking at mean values of a numeric dep_var (environ.therm) across values
of a factor (partyid3). I use ddply from plyr and wtd.mean from Hmisc. The
nes requires a

Problems with Speex echo canceller in 1.1.10
I'm having trouble getting the echo canceller to work and I'm hoping some one can get me started in diagnosing what's going on. The symptoms I'm seeing are these:
1. If the NES is silence (i.e., no echo, no speech), the ec puts the FES back into the audio.
2. If the NES is similar to the FES (same speech words), the ec doesn't seem to remove the echo.
3. For case #2, I pushed

Algunos casos

Callus, Mame and other emulators
Hi!
I'd like to play with snes, arcade and other retro games, but unfortunatelly
there isn't any linux emus for this.
So I run the emutaltor callus with wine, with medius succes: Callus works
fine, everything is ok, but it uses 100% CPU, and becouse of that, the soung
goes wrongs somethimes.
I don't know why it is takes so mutch work to wine... Callus emulate only 66

return (x+1) * 1000
Without having dug into the details, it could be that one could update
the parser by making a 'return' a keyword and require it to be
followed by a parenthesis that optionally contains an expression
followed by end of statement (newline or semicolon). Such a
"promotion" of the 'return' statement seems backward compatible and
would end up throwing syntax errors on:

And the related:

I have a feeling all of this is just return() performing correctly though.
If there are already R CMD CHECK checks for this kind of thing (I
wasnt sure but I'm hearing from others there may be/are) that may be
(and/or may need to be) sufficient.

samba 4.12.2: WERR_DNS_ERROR_DS_UNAVAILABLE, unable to manage samba DNS
G'Day Olaf,
If this was working before, then it would be this bug:
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14310
I'm a bit swamped right now, per Microsoft the correct fix is for our
DNS Management server to ignore these values.
Can you see if your error looks like this in the server logs?

as.environment.list provides inconsistent results under torture
Hello,
Using R-devel (rev 53950), I get inconsistent results with
as.environment( VECSXP ) when gctorture is on.
Consider:
a <- list( aa = rnorm, bb = runif )
gctorture(TRUE)
as.environment( a )
The last line sometimes produces the correct environment, but sometimes
I get errors. Here are the three situations:
# good

<environment: 0x100b1c978>
# not good

Package survey
Hi,
I’m using the svyby for total statistics, for example:
svyby(~p_igov,~div_a,desenho_nps,svytotal,drop.empty.groups=TRUE,vartype
=c("se","var","cvpct"))
In the numerical variable p_igov (and others) I have many non responses
but if I maintain the NA it doesn’t work.

Converting a list to a data frame
This is very nice to learn about, Denis, but it seems only fair to point out that the result of rbindlist is not a data frame. You can convert it to a data frame easily, but the copy and indexing semantics of data tables are quite different than data tables, which could be a real headache for someone not prepared for those differences. (To learn more, read the data tables vignette.)
