IBM Storwize V3700 storage - device names
Hello, I have IBM Storwize V3700 storage, connected to 2 IBM x3550 M4 servers via fiber channel. The servers are with QLogic ISP2532-based 8Gb Fibre Channel to PCI Express HBA cards and run Centos 5.10 When I export a volume to the servers, each of them sees the volume twice, i.e /dev/sdb and /dev/sdc, with the same size. Previously I have installed many systems with IBM DS3500 series of

Some questions about mdbox
Hello I am starting testing with dovecot 2.0.9. In my //etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf/ I have the following line: /mail_location = mdbox:/mydomain.org/%2.26Hn/%2.200Hn/%n:INDEX=/mydomain.org/indexes/%2.26Hn/%2.200Hn/%n/ These are my questions (a long mail): *1? How should I restore from backup with mdbox & separate indexes?* I have read in dovecot list archive about restoring the full

size of "m.XXX" in mdbox
Hi, How to tune the size of each "m.xxx" file in mdbox format , in order to optimize the ratio size/number of files ? (I can see for instance more than 100 000 files in one directory due to very large mailbox size) If such parameter exists, what is the typical value ? Thanks Joan

Dovecot never release preallocated space in mdbox
Hello everyone, I am currently evaluating dovecot for our new email production servers (20k+ mailboxes) and found out something strange. I'm using those settings on Dovecot 2.2.4 (x86_64 / Slackware / compiled from sources) mdbox_rotate_size = 128M mdbox_rotate_interval = 1d mdbox_preallocate_space = yes with virtual users and location like : mail_location = mdbox:~/mdbox I don't

mdbox + zlib performing less than just mdbox
I have test environment to determine what would be best settings. I have been told that enabling zlib compression would be good to save iops on storage. But doing the test now, I get worse results. questions about maildir to mdbox migration
Hi folks! I converted some of the spools on my mail server from maildir to mdbox. It went smoothly and the performance has been great. However, I have two questions regarding the process. First, I failed to notice the fairly low default mdbox_rotate_size, and I changed it in dovecot.conf after the migration. Is it possible to somehow make that change retroactive, to coalesce the couple

First of all i would like to thanks Timo for the excellent job done in dovecot. So lets begin: We are using dovecot 2.0.6 with maildir in an ocfs2 partiton. It is pretty slow access in peak time, but it is related to

mdbox-files over 2 MB
Hello, I received an e-mail, this includes 9 forwarding, each with a file. These files are not removed from the e-mail and stored in the attachments-directory, although they are larger than 16 KB. For all files the "Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64" is set. The email is stored in completely in "m.00000034" ------------------------------------- doveconf: # 2.2.12:

Questiosn about dbox
Hello I have read carefully about dbox (/http://wiki2.dovecot.org/MailboxFormat/dbox/) and I have some questions: - One of the main advantages (speed wise) of dbox over maildir is that index files are the only storage for message flags and keywords. What happens when we want to recover some messages from backup? With maildir we can rebuild message indexes, but I am not sure about

Wazzup with the rubyonrails-talk Google Group?
I just got a Google Groups notification that I had been subscribed to http://groups.google.com/group/rubyonrails-talk. Looking at the page, it appears that about 4300 folks have been subscribed. However, I saw nothing about this on rails@lists.rubyonrails.org. Wazzup? -r -- http://www.cfcl.com/rdm Rich Morin http://www.cfcl.com/rdm/resume rdm@cfcl.com

Providing shared folders with multiple backend servers
Hi *, I am currently in the planning stage for a "new and improved" mail system at my university. Right now, everything is on one big backend server but this is causing me increasing amounts of pain, beginning with the time a full backup takes. So naturally, I want to split this big server into smaller ones. To keep things simple, I want to pin a user to a server so I can avoid

OCFS2 and VMware ESX
Hi, We are haing some serious issues trying to configure an OCFS2 cluster on 3 SLES 10 SP2 boxes running in VMware ESX 3.0.1. Before I go into any of the detailed errors we are experiencing I first wanted to ask everyone if they have successfully configured this solution? We would be interested to find out what needs to be set at the VMware level (RDM, VMFS, NICS etc) and what needs to be

Performance of Maildir vs sdbox/mdbox
Hi Guys, I've been desperately trying to find some comparative performance information about the different mailbox formats supported by Dovecot in order to make an assessment on which format is right for our environment. This is a brand new build, with customer mailboxes to be migrated in over the course of 3-4 months. Some details on our new environment: * Approximately 1.6M+

Mdbox corruption
Hi, I have a "ubuntu10.04 + ext4-filesystem + dovecot-2.0.13 +mdbox" configuration in my server. It works fine with ~50k accounts. Recently happened a filesystem corruption in a device of StMailLocation and I fix with fsck.ext4. After this crash, one account began to show access timeout and errors like this on force-resync: # doveadm force-resync -u account INBOX doveadm(account):

Cucumber - RSpec matcher
I must be missing something obvious here but I cannot seem to see it. I have this step definition: When /entity named "(.*)" has a legal name "(.*)"/ do |name, legal| myentity = Entity.find_by_entity_common_name!(name.hll_keycase) myentity.entity_legal_name.should equal legal.hll_keycase end Which fails with this: And the entity named "Myuser" has a legal

Instiki 0.11.0 - ActiveRecord Forever
Dear all, If you thought Instiki was a dead project, you were right. Since I''ve got a day job that doesn''t suck (Official Ruby Zealot of ThoughtWorks Canada), my motivation to do open source greatly sufferred :) But... but... but! Here is Instiki 0.11.0, and in this version Instiki is (finally!) moving to ActiveRecord backend and (finally!) has the File Upload feature.

Architecture for large Dovecot cluster
Hi All, I am trying to determine whether a mail server cluster based on Dovecot will be capable of supporting 500,000+ mailboxes with about 50,000 IMAP and 5000 active POP3 connections. I have looked at the Dovecot clustering suggestions here: http://blog.dovecot.org/2012/02/dovecot-clustering-with-dsync-based.html and some other Dovecot mailing list threads but I am not sure how many
