Benchmarking: Dovecot vs Courier. Courier wins as POP3 server
Hi All,
I have compared Dovecot performance to Courier and it appears that as a POP3 server Dovecot is slower in 2 times but as an IMAP server it is faster in 1.5 times. The same node (16CPUs), testing time is 30 min, please see results and dovecot configs attached.
Benchmark software is MStone used by Sendmail Inc so is is quite reliable.
I do not see anything else to tweak in Dovecot to

Samba as W2k3 AD domain member; how to configure domain controller failover?
Dear list,
I have a question how you configure Samba (configured as a W2k3 domain
member) to failover to a secondary AD domain controller when the connection
to the primary domain controller fails.
First some info:
- Windows 2003 Active directory (native mode), currently running with 2
domain controllers.
- Samba (version 3.0.9) running on a RHL9 server (updated with kerberos
1.3.1-7),

Problem with my 'master browser'
Hi!
Configuration: NT1 (NT Server 4.0 SP4)
Unix2 (samba 2.0.3)
Is this a normal behavior? My NT-Server and my samba-server a fighting to be
the master browser.
Look also at my smb.conf [global]-section. The OS-Level of my samba-server
is much higher.

Hi,
When I create multiple graphs subsequent graphs overwrite previous
graphs. How do I keep all my graphs in the current workspace (but not
all on the same page) so I can scroll through them?
thanks,

Hai Stefan,
Yes, its always better to ask the list, that way everybody can learn from it. ;-)

No i dont think so.
Please note, o dont know anything about gentoo except that they have a good wiki/info pages.
If this was debian, then in this case, what i would extra do here, run :
samba -b and backup all folders of samba and any thing

Problems installing managesieve and then managesieve-login
Hi,
Software:
AIX 5.3
dovecot-2.0-pigeonhole revision 1234:7b3db97399de
with
dovecot revision 10621:a978089d090b
I'm having problems installing managesieve. I modified the Makefile because DESTDIR was not being found.
Here is what I changed to make it work:
echo " $(INSTALL_PROGRAM_ENV) $(LIBTOOL) --mode=install $(dovecot_pkglibexecPROGRAMS_INSTALL) '$$p'

director with same director / backend servers
I know this has been covered somewhat, but I'm still not totally clear.
I'm trying to setup a 3 node cluster with 3 directors and 3 backend
systems.
This post (from 2012) suggests that proxy_maybe should work with director:
http://www.dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2012-December/069806.html
However, these two posts (from 2013) seem to say that it will not:

Dovecot director: show user breakdown by director?
Hi,
We have recently started using the director in some tests. We are using
the static passdb setup (proxy=y nopassword=y) for now, where
authentication is done on the downstream IMAP servers.
"dovecot director status" shows a breakdown of proxied connections per
backend, but there does not seem to be a similar breakdown of user
connections per director.

Wrong protocol in socket (director-doveadm vs director) ?
I just noticed this error in my logs:
director: Error: doveadm not compatible with this server (mixed old and new
binaries?)
director: Error: director(10.161.192.28:541/right): Wrong protocol in socket
(director-doveadm vs director)
The first error I removed by changing
director_doveadm_port = 541
to
director_doveadm_port = 542
Not really sure why that fixed it.
The second error I

my file transfers are incredibly slow
My problem is there I download and archive my work to the freebsd server via
samba. When I'm transfering files from the windows -> freebsd I will get
anywhere between 20-100kB/s and from freebsd -> windows I will get a few
mbps. I'm getting no where near a full 100mbps and both ethernet cards are
set for 100mbps full duplex working great. I've tried increasing buffer

Install issues for Xen 4.2.1 on Ubuntu 12.10
Good evening everyone,
I am attempting to compile Xen 4.2.1 from source on Ubuntu 12.10 and cannot for the life of me figure out what I am doing wrong. This is the script I wrote that I am running on a brand new install from ubuntu-12.10-server-amd64.iso
apt-get update
apt-get -y upgrade
apt-get -y dist-upgrade
reboot
(uname -r returns back 3.5.0-23-generic)

doveadm director status username != doveadm director status username@mailserver
Hi,
I've almost finished my new director based setup, but in the first test
I discovered that imap and lmtp connections were not always being
proxied to the same server. After some research now I think that the
main problem is that in imap connections users connect as 'username'
while lmtp connections are as 'username at mailserver'.
In my current setup I receive mail via
