backup mdbox best strategy
Hello,
i have to backup (tape library) a mailsystem with about 300.000
Mailboxes on 2 backends. Summary of all mailboxes are 2 TByte.
The mailstore is mdbox.
Is it save to do a simple filesystem backup (full and incremental) with
backupsoftware?
What is the prefered strategy to do a backup for desaster recovery
(mailsystem crash) and restoring single usermailboxes?

mdbox "doveadm purge" strategy
Hi there.
I am using mdbox storage with great success but I am seeing something I
find strange and I would like to compare notes with you.
When doing "doveadm purge", "m.*" files with non deleted messages are
left alone, but "m.*" files with deleted messages copy the "non deleted"
messages to a newly created "m.*" file and delete the original.

rsync'ing an rdiff-backup repository
I'm rsync'ing an rdiff-backup repository to a different machine and I
have a few questions I'm hoping you guys can help me out with.
Should I use --archive? Or maybe -rlD instead?
Can I restrict an SSH key to rsync? I can do it with rdiff-backup
with command="rdiff-backup --server" but I can't figure out how to do
it with rsync.
The rdiff-backup repository I'm

rdiff-backup update broken?
After the recent yum update to rdiff-backup-1.2.2-1.el5.rf rdiff-backup no
longer works. I don't "speak" python so not sure what's going on.
Here's a portion of what I'm seeing...

Backup PC or other solution
I wonder why nobody has yet mentioned rdiff-backup. It combines
browsable directories with multiple versions - the version data is
stored in a separate rdiff-backup-data subdirectory (one per backup task).
One downside is that rdiff-backup causes a lot of network traffic. For
that reason I currently use rsync to copy over network, and then I use
rdiff-backup locally to create a repository

I use rdiff-backup, but I hesitate to recommend a tool that has been
unsupported for over 6 years and does have quite a few bugs.

problem with rdiff
Hi all.
(I am sending this querry here because it is somehow relating to rsync. If i am wrong please pardon me.)
I am doing following on these windowsXP and Vista.
I am trying to get only incremental backup using "rdiff-backup" (that also uses rsync).
I have installed gcc compiler and by following the steps given in http://katastrophos.net/andre/blog/2005/11/02/rdiff-backup-on-windows/

Replication problems bdc to pdc
I am not a Linux Guru, so I just learned how to configure dhcpd5 to
using static address instead of uninstalling. To avoid any potential
problems. It looks the opposite :-).
In "/var/lib/samba/private/named.conf" is a line "// If you are just
adding zones, please do that in /etc/bind/named.conf.local". I do not
use it, I estimate the zone will add samba provisioning. I

Backup recovery with mdbox
Hello
I'm using mdbox for mail storage. I'd like to give users an option to
recover backups into a new folder, say, Backup-$date.
Is there a simple way to do this? I was looking at tools like dsync and
doveadm-altmove but apparently they're not intended for this kind of
stuff.
Thanks in advance,

doveadm backup mdbox - initial copy slow
Hello,
when calling doveadm backup like in the following example, it seems to flush every email to disk
maxing out harddrives (iops) and resulting in very poor performance:
Calling doveadm -o plugin/quota= backup -u "statusmails at domain.com" "mdbox:/backup/vmail/domain.com/statusmails"
finished in 212 secs [changes:1800 copy:1800 delete:0 expunge:0]

dsync backup errors with maildir -> mdbox
Hi,
In preparation for a migration from maildir to mdbox, I am using dsync
backup to do initial mailbox copies (at this point I do not want to risk
any changes to the maildir). The initial run of dsync runs fine, but a
second run to migrate any changes since the first run produces errors
for many users. Here is an example of the type of error produced:

rdiff-backup of Maildir?
What's the best way to do long-term backups of the Maildir format these
days? Traditionally we've just done a rdiff-backup or pointed Bacula at
the Maildir. Both give us the option to reset a particular mailbox back
to a previous day (any day within the last N months).
Do we just need to snapshot the LVM volume that holds all the Maildir
boxes, or is there some additional commands

"doveadm backup/sync" don't follow message moving even with MDBOX
Using mdbox as the storage backend, moving a message from a mailbox to
another just update a reference. The message is not fisically moved on
the disk.
I would expect "dsync" to use this fact when source and destination are
mdbox. But it doesn't.
Anybody else can confirm?.
Any plan to implement it?.
Thanks!.

I do not know if this has been reported already
(I searched the headers of the recent messages to r-devel)
It seems that 'example' in R 2.11.0 has a problem when the help file
does not contain any example.
This is what happens on R 2.11.0 on Windows XP.

Integrating Samba into a Database and configured for OpenVPN
Hi All,
This is my first post and I am relatively new with Linux.
I am attempting to do three things and I'm hoping for advice:
1) Intergrate Samba fully with MySQL (unless another database would be
considered better for this task). One of the things I've always had trouble
with Linux is that everything is seperate. I understand that provides
flexibility but I would like to
