Gnu sieve vs Dovecot sieve-filter - sieve-filter extremely slow at lda (writing emails to local mbox files)
(I did subscribe to this mailing list, albeit with zen at
freedbms.net, so either way I'm getting all your emails - thank you
-so- much for replying...)
MUA is mutt, reading email in a terminal (sorry, forgot to mention this before).
For many years now my email folder (mbox files) collection has grown
to many GiB, mostly mailing lists.
If I am to change email storage format, it should be

dovecot and firstname.initial.lastname mbox format archive
hi
Today I have been in a puzzling fight with 2 dovecot versions that I would
like to ask some comments on.
The situation is this:
- I have a considerable mail archive in mbox format (yes, I know, but that
is what I have..).
- My mail reader is mutt 1.5.20 by the way.
- Some of these mbox files have names like firstname.initial.lastname
Note the . seperating the parts of the email-ers name.

Dovecot mbox & other programs
Pretty sure [s]he's a troll: Every assumption [s]he's written until now
has been wrong and there was not even the attempt to show
data/information that supports the claims.
That communication form is usually intentional to provoke discussion.
Further CCing to his/her email should stop, s/he can just subscribe.

Recursive file hieararchy with order precedence
Hello,
Consider the following;
You have a number of sites, all controlled by puppet. You have
identified which files that are common to every host, and then which
files are common to any particular site. Finally, you have the files
which are private to the node in question.
What I was wondering was if it would be possible to have some sort of
directory hierarchy which has some kind of

Can't see existing mail folders
I have installed dovecot version 0.99.11 on my Slackware 10.1 system
recently and it basically works as expected. However I can't get it
to 'see' existing mbox hierarchies.
I have the following in dovecot.conf:-
default_mail_env = mbox:/home/%u/Mail:INBOX=/var/mail/%u
(I also originally tried with %h/Mail)
IMAP MUAs can see the INBOX OK but I can't get them to see any of

beta8 + mbox + Thunderbird
Hi all,
I'm still using beta8 (on FreeBSD 5.4-RELEASE).
Recently I put a co-worker who's using Thunderbird (1.5.0.4) on it and
he seemed to have lost some messages (which were delivered on the
spool since seen on procmail logfile).
I switched him on another server to play safe and tried to test it
myself but failed to reproduce the issue. I myself use mutt on a daily
basis with no

Dovecot mbox & other programs
Hello,
I want to use dovecot as imap server with mbox storage format (described
at [1]) but I also want to access (and modify!) those mbox files which
are stored on server (and used by dovecot).
What is correct way to read those mboxes? From wiki page [1] I read that
I should ignore first message in mbox (which contains X-IMAPbase header)
and mbox file is in mboxcl2 format.
And what is

process imap SIGSEGVs when getting STATUS on mbox box
Hi,
I just added an "archive" mbox namespace to my dovecot setup, so that
people can put their old mail into a slightly more inode-friendly
box. When querying the STATUS on one of these boxes, I got a sigsegv:
Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

possible bug with incoming mail
I've been using Dovecot for a couple months now and am very impressed.
Thanks for a great package.
However, I have noticed a problem that I haven't been able to solve.
When a new message comes into my inbox, the last message that was
received is marked as new as well as the new one.
I originally thought this was a bug in my client (mutt) but I have
verified that the same thing

Compressed mbox - patch
Some time ago I complained about very slow access to compressed mboxes.
Unfortunately it looks like that it is very little interest in it, so I
have to investigate some things by myself.
Firstly: some rationale.
Why do I prefer use mbox/maildir over mdbox. Short answer "bus factor"
for support mdbox (not only dovecot)
Longer answer: if something goes wrong withm maildir/mbox i can use

mbox files - can they be "compacted"?
Hi All ;)
Is there an option to compact large mbox files from the shell? I did not
find anything in google, I have some very large constantly updated mbox
files and would like to know if they can be made smaller with any tool.
AFAIK mutt does such operation when for example an email is deleted but I
am curious if there are other options.
BR,
Rafal.

Reading Mutt mboxes from Thunderbird
Hi, I'm a user of Mutt, and before moving to Thunderbird I'm trying to
share mboxes between them. To do this, I installed Dovecot to create an
IMAP server in my local machine, to serve mutt mboxes to be read by
Thunderbird.
So far, I can read my inbox from /var/mail/%u, but in mutt, I have many
folders in ~/mail, like 2010-mails, 2011-mails, mailing-list-x,
mailing-list-y, and so on. How

problem with content-length and mbox parsing
The stars aligned recently such that I sent someone a message that
contained a line similar to this in the message body:
From glenn at usg.edu Thu Jun 20 16:48:11 2002
(Except that there wasn't that space character *before* the From; I've
added it here to avoid any problems with this message).
Dovecot wrote a copy of the message in my "sent mail" folder under the
