Shorewall and Mandrake 10.1
When I installed Mandrake 10.1, I have
no probelms with it''s configuration and usage.
However, I wanted to build a custom kernel
with support for my built-in sound chip -
as I was unable to get the audio to work.
After I rebooted the new custom kernel,
shorewall broke - no iptables in the kernel,
even though iptables were configured in:
CONFIG_IP_MULTIPLE_TABLES=y

[PATCH] BUG on fsync/fdatasync with Ext3 data=journal
Hello,
We found that fsync and fdatasync syscalls sometimes don't sync
data in an ext3 file system under the following conditions.
1. Kernel version is 2.6.6 or later (including 2.6.8.1 and 2.6.9-rc2).
2. Ext3's journalling mode is "data=journal".
3. Create a file (whose size is 1Mbytes) and execute umount/mount.
4. lseek to a random position within the file, write 8192 bytes

how to build Xen for 2.6.8.1?
I''m looking at: http://wiki.blitzed.org/User:grifferz/Xen#Xen_kernel_patch
and would like to get a sparse tree for 2.6.8.1 to build both the domU and
dom0 for linux kernel 2.6.8.1. Could someone point me in the
right direction?
thanks,

xen and pci
hello,
I''m running XEN 2.0 on IBM ThinkPad T23.
Now the weird thing is that I get two different outputs from /sbin/lspci
depending on whether I run 2.6.8.1-xen0 or 2.6.8.1-bproc.
In particular the output from 2.6.8.1-xen0 seems to be missing those 4

error while writing audio data: : Broken pipe
Dear Asterisk developers,
I run the same asterisk version on the home machine and on the work. On
the home machine I have Slackware 10.0 (kernel 2.4.24) while on the work
machine I have Mandrake 10.1 (kernel 2.6.8.1 <http://2.6.8.1>).
When I run asterisk on the work machine, these warnings and error appear
(there
are no warnings or error at home):

HTB 2.6.8 works 2.4.27 does not!
Hi again, sorry to be such a bother.
I got my setup to work with kernel 2.6.8.1, however the two machines where
I need to implement the shaping are running a 2.4.27 kernel.
I have applied the infamous June patch (htbfair.diff) already, and
recompiled the modules. And I am using the tc that comes with
htb3.6-020525.tgz. While I can see the packets going into the right
class, it does not

smbf errors
Hello,
I can't mount shares of some servers since I use kernel 2.6.x. As it works
with smbclient and also with smbmount on kernel 2.4.x, I assume the problem
lies within smbfs.
Kernel version: 2.6.8.1
Samba version: 3.0.4
Dist: Debian unstable
I get errors when I try to mount a share from OS/2 4.0:
1) smbmount
everything's fine
2) cd into the mounted dir
smbfs output:

Assertion failed in dovecot 0.99.14
Hi,
I am using the dovecot imap server on Linux 2.6.8.1.
I get the following error when running it:
imap(quad): Panic: file index-sync.c: line 25 (index_storage_sync_size):
assertion failed: (messages > ibox->synced_messages_count)
This usually occurs when I use imapfilter to move messages from one
folder to another, while my client (thunderbird) is connected.

netem usage example
I''m trying to setup a netem delay with no luck (using iproute2-2.6.8,
compilation broke during arpd compile, so I use the
tc binary in the tc/ subdir, there''s also a q_netem.so there).
kernel is 2.6.8.1, compile with CPU cycle counter as time reference.
I was using sch_delay of 2.6.7 happily with something like:
tc qdisc add dev eth0 root 1: delay latency 1ms rate 35M
now I use:
