Rebuild all currently installed RPMs?
Hi there,
Does anyone know a quick way in yum or rpm to reinstall all currently
installed rpm's - ie: Some files have been deleted but you don't know which
ones.. So you just want to force a reinstall of all currently installed.
I have been using:
Rpm -Va | grep missing >> missing.log
And then more missing.log
Rpm -q -whatprovides /path/to/file
And then
Rpm -Uvh --force

Looking for uuid-devel
Just pulled the lastest patches to HIPL (well the last replay was 11/24,
so a number of nights behind) and tried a 'make rpm' and got the error:
error: Failed build dependencies:
uuid-devel is needed by hipl-1.0.4-1.i386
And I can'd find any rpm that has this module. I have tried different
things in yum and have not found it. resolvedep, whatprovides, info,
list.

Thai keyboard input does not work
Hello *,
I'm currently migrating a friend to Kubuntu 7.10. He's forced to use a service which works with IE only (no other browser can display their website). Fortunately, IE6 works with Wine (I used ies4linux 2.99.0 (http://www.tatanka.com.br/ies4linux) to set it up), but unfortunately only with the English keyboard layout: When we switch to Thai (KDE shortcut Ctrl-Alt-K), the focused

"read.table" and "scan" skips newlines which "count.fields" finds in Thai textfile
Hi there,
I have some problems reading in a Thai text.
Some of the newlines are skipped.
(see the contents of my file below)
R>count.fields ("my.txt", sep='\n', quote="")
[1] 1 1 1
Three lines with one item each, right?
R> scan("my.txt", what="", sep="\t", quote="")
Read 2 items

Thai vignette, cross-compile for Mac OS X, universal/multiarch (Fwd: Mac OS X builds of CelQuantileNorm, vcftools/samtools/tabix, and snpStats)
FYI.
There is a Thai vignette - and it went a lot further doing some Thai text
processing in R, than the earlier Chinese/Tibetan/LiangshanYi/Arabic vignette,
which was in reality just Chinese + Cairo graphics.
Managed to cross-compile an R package for Mac OS X from Linux; and it seems to
be working. See screenshots below. I'd be interested to know if there are less
obvious bugs; however

using paste and "\" to create a valid filename
Sometimes even the easy stuff is difficult (for me)... I want to get
input from different places to paste together an excel filename (so
you know I'm using windows) that I can open with RODBC. I know about
using double "\" since its an escape character, but I get either 2 or
none, I can't get just one "\" where I need it. See example code
below. I am using R 2.1.0,

It appears that most of the class files don't exist in the form of a rpm. In fact, some of this stuff doesn't seem to be downloadable as a .cls file (which is the format that lyx

Possibly OT: FreeNX and Gnome Language
If this is too far off topic please let me know and I'll send this
to the Gnome list or something.
Today I recently had a thai friend want to experience linux. Their
limitation is language of course. I set up an account for my friend
and had them log in after changing through GDM their language
preferences to Thai. The Thai language shows up for me when I log
in as the user on the machine.

How to extract parameter estimates of variance function from lme fit
Dear R-Users,
I have a question concerning extraction of parameter estimates of
variance function from lme fit.
To fit my simulated data, we use varConstPower ( constant plus power
variance function).
fm<-lme(UPDRS~time,data=data.simula,random=~time,method="ML",weights=varConstPower(fixed=list(power=1)))
I extract the results of this function by using the following codes:
