AD authentication with separate LDAP authorization
Hi all,
SHORT VERSION
How can I configure Samba 4.8.0 serving users on Windows 7 clients to
authenticate using their domain login credentials (winbindd and Active
Directory) but be authorized (i.e. perform user/group lookup) against
a separate OpenLDAP server?
This was easy in previous versions of Samba with the fallback
mechanism

Yes and yes. The credentials and authentication process to the LDAP server
are working correctly as verified positively by the log files.

LDAP create home directories
Hey guys,
I've setup an LDAP server on our network. I'm using OpenLDAP.
It was really easy to use the authconfig-tui to generate the nsswitch.conf
and ldap.conf files that would allow user authentication.
But when users would log in, the system wasn't creating the home
directories.
I found one command that would correct that:
authconfig --enablemkhomedir --update
After that

You may also need to restart sssd or nslcd, depending upon which one is
running the backed ldap connection service on the clients.

FW: smbmount problem
Hi
Sorry about the misplaced Q
I tried to use a script that when user will logon to the machine he will
mount to smb mount (instead of fstab if it's problem)
I sow on several places the option to use on /etc/fstab this line
//server/share /mnt/home smbfs noauto,user 0 0
and I tried to put on script smbmount //server/share /mnt/home -o
username=$USER and get

hivexml - Flattened vs. Expanded XML
All,
Greetings. I am new to this mailing list.
We have been working with XML for digital forensics. One of the areas that we wish to create a schema for is the representation of registry entries.
We are interested in hivexml as a tool for extracting the registry as an XML representation.
In our discussion with possible users, we have generally come to the conclusion that it is useful to

LDAP create home directories
Check /var/log/secure for why the directory is not able to be created.
Might be selinux, is that enabled? (sestatus)

hivexml rewrite
Greetings.
I am new to this list.
I am writing to you about hivexml. Richard Jones told me that he was considering abandoning this program. Instead, I am willing to take over maintenance of it.
I am involved in computer forensics. I are in the midst of developing an XML standard to describe the Windows Registry.
There are several programs that export the windows registry at XML. I have

Samba/LDAP and home dir creation
Hi, all.
I'm working on a project to create a Samba PDC
with LDAP authentication. I've been pretty
successful in getting everything to work.
However, I've run into a small snag:
The PDC is built on an OpenSuse 11.2 box. Most of
the member servers are also OpenSuse 11.2 boxes.
However, a CentOS 5.5 server was just added to
the mix. While users can lo into the CentOS box,

Good catch! It was indeed SELinux preventing the directory from being
created. Disabling it allows that to happen. For instance I just created a
new test user in LDAP:
#ssh odunphy at ops2.example.com
odunphy at ops2.example.com's password:

Hmm.. I got a different result after restarting nclcd. Instead of logging
me in and just complaining that it couldn't create the home directory, it
still complains about not creating the home directory, but now it doesn't
let me in:

LMTP, PAM session and home directory autocreation
Hi,
mail is delivered by Dovecot's LMTP locally and I need user's home directory to be created if it doesn't exist yet.
There is a setting in Dovecot's configuration, "session=yes", in /etc/Dovecot/conf.d/auth-system.conf.ext, which should do that.
passdb {
driver = pam
args = session=yes dovecot
}
But I think it does not work in my setup because I do not see any

re: help with voicepulse connect IAX2
hello,
after playing with an asterisk configuration for voip for a few weeks i'm
trying to get outbound dialing with voicepulse going - i've cut down the
asterisk to a very minimal install (1 SIP client) to try to localize the
problem. The SIP client works fine (SIP and * on the same NAT) and could
access the demo from samples before i removed it, and can call itself - so

Redhat Authconfig errors
Ok, I've got most everything setup, but I'm not able to confirm
pam_ldap and nss_ldap are working properly. (Actually given the
examples in SBE, they still appear to be returning information from
local files rather than the ldap info.)
I wanted to go back and check my authconfig and reset the parameters.
However now when I do a authconfig I get this:

samba and RODC
Hi
I am trying to setup samba (rhel6/centos 6.2) and I am having some issues.
So what I have is
Server A (centos 6.2)
It exists in my DMZ so very limited access to thing. Juts mainly DNS and some ports for RODC
Sever B (W2k8r2)
RODC, exists in my insecure vlan, stepping stone into the DMZ (dmz-inside)
My Windows box work fine talking to the RODC
When I try wbinfo -u it fails. I have opened

Mounting to the home share with Linux client, what syntax, etc...?
Greetings-
Using Ubuntu 7.04 as the client OS, I am pondering how to automate a bit of "drive mappings" as I did previously with Windows.
1) What is the syntax to mount the user's home share? If possible I would like to variable'ize the username, or not even have to specify it at all. (Assume the user's Linux and Samba user names match.)
2) Suggestions / best practices of
