[PROVENANCE INTERNET] Re: Missing packages in centos8 mirrors or do I miss something?
For those who come across this thread, I've found the exact list of changed and dropped package between rhel:7 and rhel:8:
https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterprise_linux/8/html-single/considerations_in_adopting_rhel_8/index#package-replacements_changes-to-packages
Too bad that the "note" column is empty in the dropped package table. NO word about reason or

CentOS 8: several packages have unresolved dependencies after "dnf update all "
All,
While updating my package using dnf update all I allow dnf to clean some
package with unresolved dependencies.
I would like to reinstall some of them but got an error message "but none
of the providers can be installed" during the install process as dnf is
trying to install the dependencies.
.
This happens for some critical package like boost-openmpi-devel (see

log4j12 package in CentOS 8
According to the RHEL docs, package log4j was replaced with package
log4j12 in RHEL 8.0. However, when I attempt to install the package in
CentOS 8, dnf cannot find it. I have the Base, AppStream, Extras and
PowerTools repos enabled. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks!

EFS crypted files and smbclient.
Is there a way to get a NTFS encrypted file using smbclient (even not
decrypted) so It can be backed up using backuppc
(http://backuppc.sourceforge.net) ?
I have exported the NTFS keys in a pfx file. could it help copy the file?
the aim is that files must be crypted on laptops hard drive so if it is stolen
then no data is compromised. Having the file not crypted on the backup server
is not a

C8 Questions
Hi all,
I've several questions about C8. I'm using 8 on my personal NAS and
works very well. I'm running several VMs with centos 8 and noticed
something:
1) Why corosync, pacemaker and pcs are missing on C8? They are only
available on rhel with payments( rhel ha addons)?
2) Why there is only Gnome as available DE? I use centos on my
workstation and I'm a kde-plasma user. XFCE

(libraries, header files, etc)?

rsync problem in systemimager
Hello,
I'm working on the oscar-1.3 release with my Linux Itanium's cluster to
test cloning process via systemimager.
After having succeeded to boot my client node via the network, when
running the following script : /var/lib/systemimager/scripts/ced1.sh
rsync is able to get small files (e.g : mkdosfs). However, when the
script tries to rsync the whole oscar image in the following way :

puppetd port issues
I configured my rsync daemon to be restarted when the rsyncd configuration
file changes.
When the rsync daemon gets restarted by puppet, it listens on the same port
puppetd does, so running puppetd again results in an error.
The init script for rsync is small and can not be changed from puppet (all
variables are declared within the init script and it only searches for the
path where the rsync

Upgrade to CentOS8
Hi folks
I have a couple of Zotac mini PCs running CentOS7 which I want/need to
upgrade to CentOS8
In theory, they are CentOS8 capable, but assuming Murphy might be lurking
around, I prefer validating the hardware before starting the effective
installation
As there is no LiveCD, what would be the recommended way to do this?
Thanks!

How to Mirror CentOS8 repository in CentOS7 Server via reposync
Hi
I'm running CentOS7 server as ImageServer and local repository server. And i need to mirror CentOS8 repository (http://mirror.centos.org/centos-8/8.1.1911/AppStream/x86_64/os/ ) in my CentOS7 Server.
If i mirror CentOS8 repository using repo sync command in CentOS7 it did
not properly mirror centos8 repository, due to that when i install
package from CentOS8 client machine

YUM (DNF) Possible Confusion Centos 8
Folks
In a test Centos 8 installation as a guest of VirtualBox on Windows
10, I want to install ffmpeg, and support for exfat. They're not in
the standard distribution (as far as I know), so I issue as root:
yum -y --enablerepo rpmfusion-free-updates install ffmpeg
fuse-exfat exfat-utils
and that works just fine. The ffmpeg functionality works; I haven't
tested exfat yet.

CentOS8 and crypto-policies
Hi,
I started playing with CentOS8 and I am trying to set default crypto
policies for openssh server/client. In CentOS7 I followed the guide
from https://infosec.mozilla.org/guidelines/openssh.html and set
KexAlgorithms /Ciphers/MACs in sshd_config.
In CentOS8 I can edit
/usr/share/crypto-policies/$POLICY/opensshserver.txt for the sshd
arguments, but editing openssh.txt or even changing default
