samba-vscan-clamav on access virus scanner for Samba
Hello Listers,
Don't know what everyone is using for virus scanning on your school's
windersz boxes. Just thought this may be of interest to some people
here. I set up a few weeks ago, on our Samba file server for all
students and staff at school samba-vscan-clamav. I guess i shouldn't
blow about it yet, but with quite a bit of testing by yours truly, this
really works slick as a real

Dtrace probes for voluntary and involuntary context switches
Hi,
I am profiling some workloads for the voluntary and involuntary context switches. I am interested in finding out the reasons causing these two types of context switches. As far as I understand, involuntary context switch happens on expiration of time slice or when a higher priority process comes in. While the voluntary switch generally happens when a process is waiting for I/O etc.

System deadlock when using mksnap_ffs
I've been playing around with snapshots lately but I've got a problem on
one of my servers running 7-STABLE amd64:
FreeBSD paladin 7.1-PRERELEASE FreeBSD 7.1-PRERELEASE #8: Mon Nov 10 20:49:51 GMT 2008 tdb@paladin:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/PALADIN amd64
I run the mksnap_ffs command to take the snapshot and some time later
the system completely freezes up:

How to reduce size of samba binaries
Hi,
I'd like to reduce the size of the samba binaries. smbd for instance is
about 1.5 meg, which is way to much if you ask me. Is there a way to
create smaller binaries, maybe by compiling differently?
thanx,
Dennis

2.0, hourly performance stats
I'm getting constantly high numbers of page reclaims & involuntary
context switches for dovecot/auth.
page reclaims = minor faults = cpu switching back to system-mode, But
why is the auth process doing that so excessively? Same for the large
number of involuntary context switches...
Attached is my "dovecot -n" output.

CONFIG_PREEMPT_RT=y possible in Dom0 kernel?
HI,
Is it possible to specify CONFIG_PREEMPT_RT=y in the Dom0 kernel? It seems
that it is forbidden as it is not a menu option in make menuconfig and gets
removed if I manually add it to the .config.
I want to run a sound server on Dom0 and am having problems with xruns at
present, so need to be able to run a preemptive kernel.
Thanks,
Chris

Measure network bandwidth per process
Hi,
Is there a way to measure network bandwidth per process in CentOS Linux
release 7.6.1810 (Core) using any utility? I was reading about nethogs but
it does not have the option to run it in daemon mode so that we can take a
look at historical data to figure out the process which was consuming high
network bandwidth instead it is a good tool for Live monitoring.
Please suggest. Thanks in

Re: Fwd: Re: struct page field arrangement
Btw., another question that made me wonder already when doing the
original patch: why is it that x86-64 properly uses locking for mm_pin_all(),
yet i386 doesn''t need to?

prevent runaway PID taking down server (RAM/swap)
Is there a way I can prevent processes from taking up all the ram then swap
until the box crashes/freezes?
I'm using IEs4Linux and the wineserver seems to start taking up RAM until my
box dies, it happens slowly.
I am able to kill the sucker now, but I'd like to not have to worry about
that.

libnbd completion callback question
I noticed while reading the code that we have a documentation hole that
may cause memory leaks for clients that are unaware, in relation to
completion callbacks.
The situation arises as follows: for all commands with a completion
callback, I checked that the code has clean semantics: either
nbd_aio_FOO() returns -1 and we never call the callback cleanup, or
nbd_aio_FOO() returns a cookie and

A number of years back it became necessary to limit the size of messages

Lmtp Memory Limit
Hi,
i am using dovecot 2.2.33.2 on CentOS 7.4.
Since i upgraded from CentOS 7.2. to CentOS 7.4. (without upgrading dovecot), my dovecot sieve-pipe scripts crash with Out of memory:
Out of memory (allocated 262144) (tried to allocate 8793 bytes)
There are some memory limits in dovecot or sieve? Can i change this value?

new clamav update miss 'clamav' user/group creation/update
Hi folks,
Just updating clamav 'bundle' from old 'clamav-server' (i think the just
previous) and i noticed that the 'clamav' user/group for this pkg is not created
by default by the rpm pkg.
At the same time, the /var/log/clamav is not updated/created with clamav.clamav
ownership,
Don't know if it is my actual config (previous one untouched anyway), but this

OT clamav-milter
I OT'd this since it is supplied by dag and not centos but running on
centos 3.5
# service clamav-milter start
Starting Clamav Milter Daemon: clamav-milter: --timeout must not be
given if --external is not given
I updated last week and didn't have any problems. I did restart the
system today and for some reason cannot get clamav-milter to start
;-(
Any hints - afaik - nothing
