Dnsmasq and /etc/hosts
Hi,
I just setup CentOS 7 on three boxes to fiddle with it.
1. amandine.sandbox.lan is a headless LAN server
2. bernadette.sandbox.lan is a client desktop
3. raymonde.sandbox.lan is another client desktop
I've setup Dnsmasq on amandine.sandbox.lan. Here's the very basic
configuration:
# /etc/dnsmasq.conf
domain-needed
bogus-priv
interface=enp3s1

After some more fiddling, I guess I found a solution to my problem. If
we formulate the problem differently, we can say that the clients use
the information provided by Dnsmasq, but the

Degrees of freedom using Box.test()
After an RSiteSeach("Box.test") I found some discussion regarding the degrees
of freedom in the computation of the Ljung-Box test using Box.test(), but did
not find any posting about the proper degrees of freedom.
Box.test() uses "lag=number" as the degrees of freedom. However, I believe
the correct degrees of freedom should be "number-p-q" where p and q are

WG: Samba, ldap and machine accounts
Hello G?tz,
grep yourself ldapadmin to administrate samba3
http://ldapadmin.sourceforge.net.
What means to a certain point? You must add the machines on your centosbox
to samba/ldap with the
smbldap-tools (This never worked with my version). I did it with ldapadmin.

Squid + SquidGuard : static block page not working
Hi,
I've been working with Squid + SquidGuard for a few years, though only
on Slackware. I'm currently transferring my proxy expertise to CentOS 7,
and right now I'm having a little problem with that.
Squid works perfectly so far as a transparent HTTP + HTTPS cache proxy.
The next step is to add SquidGuard, so I installed it and edited the
most basic /etc/squid/squidGuard.conf file

CentOS 7: software RAID 5 array with 4 disks and no spares?
Hi,
I just replaced Slackware64 14.1 running on my office's HP Proliant
Microserver with a fresh installation of CentOS 7.
The server has 4 x 250 GB disks.
Every disk is configured like this :
* 200 MB /dev/sdX1 for /boot
* 4 GB /dev/sdX2 for swap
* 248 GB /dev/sdX3 for /
There are supposed to be no spare devices.
/boot and swap are all supposed to be assembled in RAID level 1 across

Postfix, system notifications and local servers
Hi,
I have CentOS 7 running on half a dozen public servers. For some stuff
like automatic updates using yum-cron, I have Postfix installed with a
relatively basic configuration. This allows me to send important
notifications to my mail address info at microlinux.fr. When there's a
batch of updates, I get one mail per machine, so I can check quickly if
everything went OK without having to

Samba shares not appearing
Hi,
I'm currently fiddling with Samba, trying to make it work on CentOS 7.
Before that, I ran Samba successfully in a mixed environment with
Slackware64 14.1 on the server and Slackware/Windows Seven on the client
side.
I have three sandbox machines running CentOS 7. One has a minimal
install with only the samba and samba-client packages. Just to be on the
safe side for fiddling,

generalized linear mixed models - how to compare?
Dear all,
I want to evaluate several generalized linear mixed models, including the null
model, and select the best approximating one. I have tried glmmPQL (MASS
library) and GLMM (lme4) to fit the models. Both result in similar parameter
estimates but fairly different likelihood estimates.
My questions:
1- Is it correct to calculate AIC for comparing my models, given that they use

Can't access Samba shares from Nautilus
Hi,
I'm currently experimenting with Samba on a few sandbox machines.
On the server side, I have setup CentOS 7 with a basic Samba setup and
two shares, one public, the other password-protected.
I have two Windows 7 boxes in my network, and I can access the shares
perfectly, log in to the password-protected share, read and write files,
so this seems to work OK.
On my main Linux workstation

Variable not evaluating, returning nil object
There is probably a simple answer to this, but I''m fairly new to rails.
Any idea why the variable "b" won''t evaluate on this line?
<%=image_tag(thumbnail(items[b].catalognum,
192),:alt=>items[b].view_description,:border=>0)%>
If I change it to:
<%=image_tag(thumbnail(items[0].catalognum,
