Trying to find packages that depend on package X.
Quick search in bout "man yum" and "man rpm" shows how to find what package X depends upon, but not what depends upon package X. Of course, we could get a deplist for everything but I'm *guessing* that take more overhead and grep too. "yum remove" tells us. Then we just have to remember to say "No, don't remove". Am I missing something... like I

Failed to get D-Bus connection on FreeBSD
Greetings, I've been trying to get LightDM working on FreeBSD, as there is no package for it yet. I've managed to get it compiled from source, but it fails to start. It displays the message, "Failed to get D-Bus connection". D-Bus is running, and LightDM starts the X server fine. Is there anything I need to do to get it to talk to dbus? Right now I have LightDM installed in my

g_dbus_connection_real_closed when starting lightdm
Hi, I made the switch from KDE4->XFCE, and because gdm takes more time than xfce to start I would like to replace it with lightdm. I installed lightdm, set it as default display manager and configured the gtk greeter. However, when I start I only get a black screen (x running) and nothing else happens. When I start it as root with the --test-mode argument, I get the following message: lightdm

sendmail and cups gets installed although not chosen in kickstart file
I setup a kickstart file that contains only @core and several packages explicitely listed. postfix is listed, sendmail is not. And there's no package where I would think it needs cups. Nevertheless, after the install I now have postfix *and* sendmail on the machine and sendmail even being enabled. And cups is installed. How can I find out what forced them (and probably many other unwanted

Making systemd start a service after sshd?
Hi folks, For complicated reasons, I'd like to have a service (lightdm) start after sshd starts. (This is on CentOS 7.) I've tried adding "sshd.service" to the lists of "Active=" and "Require=" items in /etc/systemd/system/lightdm.service (which started as a copy of /usr/lib/systemd/system/lightdm.service), but these changes don't seem to have

necessary/unused rpm packages
Is there a way to identify if an rpm package is unused, or how much it is used? I would like to reduce my load time by removing unused packages in my kickstart, but do not want to cause problems for users on active systems by guessing which ones are not necessary (I load everything with kickstart now). If I could find the packages are not used I could start by excluding them from a load and be

LightDM and MIR
In light (pun not intended) of the announcement here https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MirSpec what does this mean for LightDM being a viable free desktop display manager. The diagram shows the system compositor as being launched by LightDM in much the same way X is, and the plan looks very much like what we would do for Wayland. Is MIR going to be a hard dependency? Is Wayland support going to be dropped

Fwd: Re: Ubuntu 18:04 not getting 'home' directory from DC
Sorry for the delayed response, Louis, I'm not sure how to tell about having "cifs/UPN" - Please advise. I was able to mount with sec=krb5 after the user is logged in but that does not help getting "home" mounted during the login. But here is where I am now: I have been able to pam_mount "home" during the login but could not get the ACLs during the mount

lightdm fails to stop & can't change login
I've been using lightdm for about a year now and with all the versions I've tried, Gentoo prints a message about lightdm and xdm failing to stop if I reboot from the lightdm menu or the xfce4 menu. If I issue 'reboot' as root from an xterm within xfce4, lightdm stops fine. I couldn't find anything in the logs, but in which one of syslog-ng's logs should I look? I'm

Race condition in lightdm greeter setup
I came across a race condition in lightdm greeter setup phase before the login screen is displayed (at boot time or after logout). I reported this also on Launchpad with more details (https://bugs.launchpad.net/lightdm/+bug/1172752), but to work on a proper fix, ideas on how to fix this would be welcome. During greeter setup "lightdm --session-child" is spawned twice. The first call to

Ubuntu 18:04 not getting 'home' directory from DC
Rowland, How would I find this info? Check if 'Rachel Jones' has a 'gecos' attribute in AD. You seem to be being denied access to '.Xauthority', was it created on another machine ? No However, I am sure '-13' usually means incorrect password. I am sure the password is correct, the /mnt/home/rachel folder is created but the user files are not created because
