CentOS/RHEL's build of firefox hardwired to evolution -- how to change this
For some awful reason (can someone explain why?), the RHEL/CentOS build of firefox is hardwired to use evolution as its mailto client. With FF 2.<mumble> this was fixable with an about:config setting. With 3.0.<mumble>, it seems not. What is the proper way of fixing this? *I* ended up doing a 'sudo rpm -e evolution' and then doing a 'sudo ln -s

mail tools preferences?
We don't have enough arguments here.... <g> I see that thunderbird's deprecated for RHEL 7, and they recommend evolution. I've certainly had some annoyances in the last couple-three years with t-bird. So, what are people's preferred mail tools, other than t-bird (or maybe mutt or pine.... <g>)? mark

Email access via Android device
I'm pretty sure that this is possible, but I don't currently know enough about email to know where to start. My main desktop computer runs Centos 6 and my preferred email client is Sylpheed, which supports both POP and IMAP email, and my "internal network" has a static IP address, so getting access to the computer from the big scary world via my phone isn't a problem. Addind kmail to EPEL
I finally decided to move from CentOS 6 to CentOS 7, but was surprised to see that kmail is no longer included: Red Hat deliberately decided to omit it. How can I ask that kmail be added to EPEL? The information on EPEL's site basically says to submit it myself, but that's above my capabilities. -- Yves Bellefeuille <yan at storm.ca>

which e-mail client can work with recent dovecot?
Hi, I'm trying to use dovecot-1.0.rc7. Before I've used dovecot-1.0 from nightly cvs build of August 08, 2006. It worked perfectly, on Linux 64-bit, you can see spec and patches at http://www.sisyphus.ru/srpm/dovecot/ When I tried to upgrade to rc7 and to recent nightly cvs builds with the same configuration and patches (provided necessary adaptations), it builds O.K, but can not move

Import from Evolution
I need to import the mail database generated by the evolution mail reader into dovecot. Evolution stores its mail in maildir format (fully standards compatible, I think); I would be using the maildir format in dovecot. Is there anything in the wiki, etc. explaining exactly how to do this? Why do this? Evolution is hopelessly broken, and is not likely to be fixed in the forseeable future, and

Sylpheed-claws and virtual mailboxes
Hi! Has someone encountered the following problem? What am I doing wrong or does someone know a workaround? Dovecot 1.2.1 on Debian unstable, two namespaces: namespace private { prefix = location = maildir:~/res/Maildir:LAYOUT=fs inbox = yes list = yes } namespace private { prefix = gtd/ separator = / list = yes location =

Maildir + Evolution
I don't know if this is an Evolution bug or not, but when I use the maildir format with Dovecot 0.99.10p2 (from OpenBSD packages collection) and connect to it from Evolution 1.4 using IMAP, Evolution displays subfolders incorrectly. It actually does not show any subfolders, only root folders with names like "Folder.Subfolder" and "Folder.Subfolder.Subsubfolder".

Problem with dovecot on home LAN
At present I get email directly on my laptop in /var/spool/mail/* through uucp. I'd like to get the email in the same directory on my desktop (alfred), and then run a mail server on the destop and collect the email on my laptop (william) (or on other computers on my two little home LANs, ethernet and WiFi). I was advised that dovecot was a good imap server for this purpose (I tried

Need advice please
Hi All, I have a system running (home based) Centos latest fully patched, etc that is acting as quasi mail server dhcp and name server. My question deals with mail. This is how it is currently set up. Because I travel for work weeks on end, I have fetchmail on my mail server, set up to poll my isp and download all my mail from work and personal isp. In this way my mail queues at work and

Problem with DIGEST-MD5 authentication and plaintext passwords
I wasn't able to get DIGEST-MD5 authentication working with passwords stored as plaintext until I tweaked password_generate() to make it not use the domain portion of user at domain.com as the realm. Both evolution and kmail send the email address as the username with no realm; when dovecot tries to convert the username to user + realm, the hash is different and so DIGEST-MD5

smbmount discontinued?
In a past thread I've notice that smbmount (and mount's suport for it) will be discontinued and smbclient should be used insted. Sorry if the question is too lame but I use it in some of my systems now and I think I'll have trouble porting then to smbclient. Is smbmount been removed because it relays on kernel smb support? Samba will not need smb support in kernel in the

OT: Evolution folder location
I have used Eudora since v 1.35 (circa '93). For quite some time, I have enjoyed keeping each of my mail accounts' folders in totally separate directory trees. In Eudora you do this by specifying the data locatoin as part of the startup: '<program location>/eudora.exe <data location>' So I am quite spoiled. But there is no Eudora support in Linux/CentOS. So

Syncronizing two IMAP servers
I spend time in two places, in different countries. I have a local network in each place, with IMAP servers on each network. I collect email by fetchmail from various servers, and read email on my laptop with KMail. I tried using just one IMAP server, but this proved impractical. So I have two collections of the same sub-folders, on the two servers. I have two questions: 1. Is there a simpler
