For a specialized software, we have to wait for the developers to certify
each new OS. They are still recommending 7.3. One reason in particular is
that 7.5 has a fix for Meltdown and Spectre, which known to reduce
performance. This machine will be

Why? 7.5.1804 has been out since May of this year. You're going to
end up downloading a ton of updates the first time.

Check version from installer disc
Is there some way to see what version will be installed by an installation
disc? I made a USB installer and I forgot whether it's CentOS 7.3 or 7.5.
Short of running the whole installer and seeing what happens, I can't see
any way to get this info from within Anaconda.

FW: Microsoft buys Tellme

I thought I would email this post I made on my blog from yesterday as a
way of stimulating discussion on this.
It looks like the Asterisk community is no closer to getting a Pre-Paid
'Offboard Speech Recognition Processing' SIP gateway than ever. I've

I will not be running any updates, because I need to keep a specific old
version for software compatibility. I don't know which ISO the USB stick
was made from.

I take you meant 'client min protocol', that is a global setting and
cannot be per share.

Agreed, I will keep the NT1 share on a separate VM and create a new
one for the other services. Air-gapping will be difficult though, but
I will check what can be done.
Thanks

Future WinCE IP Phone
Hi,
Found a nice little video about a prototype phone from
broadcom currently sitting in Microsoft WinCE lab. The
video is at:
http://channel9.msdn.com
The video in question is an interview with Mike Hall
titled "Windows CE and Windows Embedded Lab Tour". The
clip dealing with the VOIP phone is right at the start
so you don't need to watch the whole thing (although

OGG decoding/multi-channel mixing
Hi All,
Currently I am investigating how interesting OGG is for me.
The most important requirements are:
- Decoding on embedded hardware, ARM7 or ARM9.
- Mixing multiple audio streams/files on embedded hardware
First of all how difficult is it to decode OGG on an ARM7/9 processor? I read that OGG decoding needs floating point support?
Secondly I would like to know how many MIPS are needed to

Protocol restrictions
Is it possible to have the "min client protocol" statements per share,
or must they be global?
I am asking since I have the NT1 limit on a specific Samba server with
a share for an industrial robot with an ancient Linux/Samba
implementation , but there are other shares on the same server that
should be better protected with SMB3.
Best regards

Ok, I have an update to this problem. I added the nouveau list because
I can't quite tell if the issue is:
- the PCIe changes that went in 5.6 I think (or 5.5?), referenced below
- a new issue with thunderbold on thinkpad P73, that seems to be
triggered if I have a USB-C yubikey in the port. With 5.7, my issues
went away if I removed the USB key during boot, showing an interaction

Simple Codec questions
Hello,
I'm currently evaluating different codecs to create a list of candidates for my current project. My criteria are simple:
- What is the expected highest compression ratio where no noticeable degradation occurs yet? I need something like 1/8th compared with wave data.
- Is it possible to access the decoded streams for further processing outside of the codec? If yes, can the data be

Samba4 and NVSv4
Short story: cannot get Kerberized NFSv4 to work. I've googled a great
deal and cannot find where I have goofed (and there sure is a lot of
misleading and just plain incorrect information out there), so would
appreciate another pair of eyes. NFSv4 without Kerberos does work fine, as
does ID mapping. We're using NFSv4 in production with sec=sys, but I'm not
happy with that. My
