Xen hypervisor on CentOS 7.4 with modern UEFI server not booting from grub
Why do you need UEFI? It does not add to security "a lot" but was designed to block booting software like a "hypervisor". I used my Dell notebooks to test our hypervisor identification software (HyperCatcher if you are interested) which is bootable image. However, I was unable to boot it until I disabled UEFI. As I understand it, it will block anything from booting excepting

failure to start httpd after today update
Hello,
I ran today update of my CentOS 6.9 running on Dell T105 (AMD OPTERON) and httpd failed to start. Any idea what could cause that? I never had a problem after CentOS 6.x update. Web server runs since March 2017. I do updates usually once in a week.
Thank you

Xen hypervisor on CentOS 7.4 with modern UEFI server not booting from grub
Hi,
I installed CentOS 7.4 on a modern Lenovo ThinkSystem SR630 server
which uses UEFI. So far so good CentOS 7.4 works fine so then I went
on to install the Xen hypervisor by following the instructions from
the wiki (https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Xen/Xen4QuickStart).
Unfortunately when I reboot after having installed the xen package the
system does not boot into "CentOS Linux, with Xen

syslinux EFI?
Hello,
I have the following environment - ISC dhcp + Syslinux. Any chance to get it working for EUFI clients? I need to be able boot both BIOS and UEFI clients.
I know that alpha version of syslinix should have EFI support but didn't found how to get this working.
Thanks.

Slightly OT : newsletters, mail formatting and netiquette
I would prefer simple text in tech and security related news but you are right - they are HTML formatted. I think it is pure marketing thing. people dump other stuff to remind you who they are and for a sort of entertaining us.
The same story is in OS desktop GUI including Linux. I use CentOS 6 and 7 and still do not like 7. Not to mention in the morning Win 10 with all its crap included.

Problem boot PXE UEFI on HP ML350 Gen9
Hi All,
My PXE configurations works fine for a bios PXE (the server in legacy
mode) but hangs in an EUFI mode. Look like it can transfer the bootx64.efi

Any ideas?

Renaming virtio devices names on CentOS 8 VM guest
Thanks Robert,
I was doing that but it was still renaming to ens*.
However, I now know why, and have fixed it.
For those who are interested, the problem was that when I created the base image from a kickstart I didn't pass net.ifnames=0 to virt-create, and I ended up with an image that had forgotten about eth0 completely. I have now redone the kickstart with net.ifnames=0 and all is well.

I am going to assume that by "boot this image" you don't mean something
like memdisk or equivalent, but rather that you want to transfer that
image using "dd" to your

fixing debian's hd-media image
I want to eufi boot this image:
http://cdn-fastly.deb.debian.org/debian/dists/testing/main/installer-amd64/current/images/hd-media/boot.img.gz
there is a bug against it:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=913523
I'd like to fix the resulting usb stick for my use, and also fix it in
a way that can be used to fix the upstream bug.
I'm trying to follow the guids

A smbd process pegging CPU at near 100% with v3.0.10-1 FC2 RPM
CPU 99.3%:
2170 root 25 0 11656 3228 10m R 99.3 0.5 0:07.42 smbd
We're having the same problems as many others with print queues, client lock-ups, etc. I think
maybe this CPU problem is related as we have two servers in two locations with the same versions,
and both had the problem immediately after upgrading to 3.0.10. We use the YUM facility to
upgrade Samba. To react to these
