CentOS 7 Gnome
I installed CentOS 7 from the DVD iso file: CentOS-7-x86_64-DVD-1503-01.iso
Yum update was used (with no update issues) to install and update many packages.
The installer is significantly different from CentOS 6 where one can basicallychoose to "install everything" if one has the patience to check all productsand all software options within those categories.? During the CentOS 7

System Start-Up Issue Progress
My thanks to all that responded to my posting about our virtual
machine CentOS 6 system start-up issue.? I found the alternative
boot options to be the most helpful.? Interrupting the boot-up
process with Alt-d or Escape allowed me to see what appears to
be a quite normal string of start, install and mount activity.
However, this process ends with the system hanging at the point

Intel Flaw
How does the latest Intel flaw relate to CentOS 6.x systems
that run under VirtualBox hosted on Windows 7 computers? Given
the virtual machine degree of separation from the hardware, can
this issue actually be detected and exploited in the operating
systems that run virtually?? If there is a slow down associated
with the fix, how much might it impact the virtual systems?

Subsetting a data.frame degenerates at one column?
Greetings.
At the moment, I'm applying R to some AIX 'nmon' output, trying to get
a handle on some disk performance metrics. In case anyone's
interested:
http://docs.osg.ufl.edu/tsm/pdf/
some of them are more edifying than others. (ahem)
I'm trying to develop a somewhat general framework for plotting these
measures, in the hopes that it's of some use to people other

CentOS6 CR repo - depsolving problem
All,
Has anyone else had a problem with the CR repo on a 6.4 or 6.5 system?
I have a test VM that has the CentOS6 CR repo enabled and it recently (well
a week or so) started having dependency problems. It's choking on
dependencies for ca-cerfificates. Obviously there aren't any CR packages
yet for 6.5 so a zero package count and empty directory on the mirror [0]
are legitimate. But

Routing: How do I use what is left from an URL
Hi,
I have this scenario. I have the full path of a page stored in the
database (column ''path''). I want to be able to have very short urls for
retrieving the pages, so i have this route in my map
map.connect ''-/:title'', :controller => ''page'',
:action => ''view_by_title'', :title => nil

samba 4.12 build on hp-ux unsupported system calls
Hi Team,
We are having compile/linking time warning due unsatisfied system calls and macros.
We have checked and confirm that these are not supported by hp-ux kernel and enabling them will require changes in VFS layer and physical filesystem.

help a newbie please
Hi list readers,
I am an experienced developer with only nominal configuration talent.
These days, mostly I use ubuntu linux, but have used Debian, WhiteBox,
CentOS, RH, Fedora.
I have been using Sun VirtualBox to very great effect and hope for better
performance
by installing and using xen.
I also intend to use Dom0 exclusively as a host, and not install any other
packages.
Instead, I expect to

Power Management
Recent power management discussions plugged into one of our
current frustrations, namely the interaction of the screen
lock and power-save features on Intel/CentOS 6 platforms.
We certainly would not have guessed that locking the screen
would inhibit going into the power-save mode, but it sure
seems to do exactly that on some of our test platforms.
If one leaves the desktop idle for the timeout

r-cran-rgdal: dependency on libgdal1 unsatisfied in ubuntu 12.04?
Hi
I am trying to install the rgdal package through r-cran-rgdal (I had
added the ppa), and run into an error in Ubuntu 12.04:
r-cran-rgdal : D?pend: libgdal1 (>= 1.9.0) mais il n'est pas installable
in English, libgdal1 1.9 does not seem available in Ubuntu 12.04 (I
think version 1.7) comes.
And indeed, a:
$sudo apt-get install libgdal1
Gives also an error message, saying libgdal1

HP OfficeJet Printing
There has been a bit of grumbling recently about HP printer capability
in one of our smallest prototyping Labs.? We have a single GigE switch
connecting a Windows 7 machine and a Dell/CentOS-6 machine.? The CentOS
machine also has connectivity via another network.? Currently, only the
Windows 7 machine has been setup for printing on our HP OfficeJet 8615.
Our Samba effort on the CentOS system has

configure can't find ldap_initialize on HP-UX 11i
I'm basically using the instructions found in the HP-UX readme with the
exception that I am trying to use the version of openldap that is in
iexpress instead of the one from hpux.cs.utah.edu.
The recommendations listed in the doc are:
HP-UX 11.00 and 11.11:
OpenLdap 2.1.3 (http://hpux.cs.utah.edu)
OpenSSL 0.9.7d (http://hpux.cs.utah.edu)
HP-UX 11.23 only:

USB Serial Ports
We have several CentOS 6 systems that are used in various configurations
of test equipment.? One of the primary functions of these systems is the
connectivity to serial ports of some operational systems that have serial
port control requirements.? Lack of interface bus slots led us to the use
of USB connected serial ports on these CentOS 6 systems.
We first used these USB connected serial ports
