I figured out that the system boots OK and it is possible
to login remotely. However the monitor does not start up.
Do you know how to fix it?

Try another console like ALT-F2. See if you have a black screen login prompt. I opened a bug with RedHat for a system that when I went from 6.7 to 6.8 booted but would not start the X server. Problem was in the MACH64 driver. It is missing an external symbol that the X server requires.

I am also using CentOS, but to get a bug fixed, you have to go upstream to RedHat. I think John Pierce is right, I had to change my run level to get the alternate consoles to work. I still have the machine at run level 3 hoping that a bug fix lets me go back to run level 5. Other machines work fine, just the 2 with the MACH64 video on the motherboard will no longer run X.

This is a wild guess since the problem I had occurred on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS but the symptoms are identical. Try 'systemctl enable console-getty.service' then 'systemctl start console-getty.service' or, if it is headless (serial console only), 'systemctl enable serial-getty at ttyS0.service' then 'systemctl start serial-getty at ttyS0.service' assuming it's

Did you try another monitor -- one that you know works, and that
turns on when plugged into the outlet near the machine in question?

Xorg problem
I updated to Centos 6.8.
Every thing is working, except Xorg does not startup.
When I look at top, it seems that Xorg keeps trying but not
succeeding to start.
Any idea what the problem might be?
Thanks

Xorg problem
I was also successful with 7 computers, however they run version 6.7.
For some reason this one computer upgraded to 6.8 and Xorg does not work.
I also changed to 3 different terminals and it did not help.
I am not giving up yet.
Thanks

Xorg problem
Thanks for responding. I really don't know why I have the problem
my computer is a Dell computer with the standard parts.
I am not sure that your fix will work for me.
I am using the computer remotely and am still looking for a
solution.
Thanks

I'm guessing you mean the message on the front panel, which is the service
tag number.
There should be more helpful information if you attach a monitor to the

There's not much to it. It's the remote desktop protocol that you use to
access Windows servers. On Windows you open port 3387 or allow RDP in some
other way. (I do almost no Windows, so I

For the OP:
Did you even try Google before asking the list? Google should always be
your first choice.

For Scott:
If you install the VLC app on the iPad you can probably skip the
transcoding and also having to add the video to iTunes first. You'll only
need to transcode the audio if it uses AC3, which is proprietary and the

Slow authentication on C7
Recently i've migrated our SVN server (virtual machine) from C6 to C7
(more precisely - migrated data to freshly installed virtual machine).
And we have problem with very slow authentication. Server is configured
with SSSD, user data are fetching from our LDAP server. SVN is
configured with apache (pwauth for authentication + LDAP search for
Require ldap-group).
It takes pwauth even 10
