C-Media CM8828 [CentOS 7]
Basically I will be needing a low profile PCIe sound card with optical out.
There isn't a hell of a lot of selection, seems the assumption is if you
need sound it is on the motherboard.
That one has PCIe and a low profile bracket, but it uses the C-Media
CM8828 chipset.
My understanding that chipset is only supported in 3.17+ kernels, CentOS
7 uses 3.10.x

par("din") vs dev.size()
Hello,
I was messing around with graphics, and noted an odd behavior of par("din"). If
the x11 device is empty, par("din") does not return the correct size
if the device
has been resized manually. dev.size() works correctly.
R version 2.7.1; Fedora 8

No sound on HP 8540w, guidance requested
Dear Experts
I have been unsuccessful getting the sound to work on a HP Mobile
Workstation HP 8540w.
Here's a brief rundown of where I am
I did a clean new install of Centos 5.6 from DVD, using the Gnome
Desktop option and no optional modules.
I enabled the firewall, but disabled SELINUX.
I installed three files from elrepo to make the wireless adaptor
work, and specified the video

interpretation of F-statistics in GAMs
dear listers,
I use gam (from mgcv) for evaluation of shape and strength of relationships
between a response variable and several predictors.
How can I interpret the 'F' values viven in the GAM summary? Is it
appropriate to treat them in a similar manner as the T-statistics in a
linear model, i.e. larger values mean that this variable has a stronger
impact than a variable with smaller F?

Samba 2.2.5 Printing problem with HP Designjets
Hello,
I sent this request already last week, but got no answer (maybe I did
not use a good subject).
My problem is the following:
I use server side drivers with samba 2.2.5 and cups. I add them usually
with cupsaddsmb. This works quite well, but I have trouble with printers
with really large papersizes. I have some HP Designjet in our Network,
we need for our mechanical engineers, as well as

how many modern cars have DIN mount stereos anymore? almost all have
some weird custom shaped dashboard specific stereo insert. sure, you can
get DIN

conflicts in updating to CR repo
Note, first of all I haven't actually updated, I'm just running "yum update"
to see what conflicts, if any, I get so I can be prepared when the final
7.7 release happens.
I've traditionally used the nvidia packages from elrepo, but recently
enabled rpmfusion (back when I started using 7.x, I disabled rpmfusion
because it took them a looooong time to get a EL7 repository up).
