Dovecot 2.2 build rpm on Centos6
Hi list,
I tried to build rpm based on dovecot-2.2.2-2.fc20.src.rpm on Centos 6.4
rpmbuild --define 'rhel 64' -ba dovecot-2.2.spec
I get this error:
checking for C compiler default output file name...
configure: error: in `/home/builder/rpmbuild/BUILD/dovecot-2.2.2':
configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables

rpmbuild and new specfile
After extracting the spec file out an srpm and editing it, how does one execute $rpmbuild --rebuild package.srpm and use the new spec file as a non-root user inside a home dir build root?
Thanks!

rpmbuild -bb samba3.spec
Hello,
When I try to build using rpmbuild --bb samba3.spec after installing the
SRPM and modifing the samba3.spec and adding --with-acl-support my RPM
file comes out to be just over 52 megs.
How can I strip it down to be the regular size? I remember rebuilding
from SRPM and it created a debug rpm as well. It didnt do that this time.
Any ideas.

Custom kernel RPM/SRPM
Hi,
I've built customs kernels from the SRPMs with the following:
rpmbuild -bp --target=i686 /path/to/spec
cd /usr/src
ln -s /usr/src/redhat/BUILD/kernel-x.y.z/linux-x.y.z linux
cd linux
make oldconfig
make menuconfig
make all
make modules
make modules_install
And it works just fine. The problem now is that I think installing
that way isn't

fedora core 3 kernel source - could someone throw the dog a bone!
Ok, don't flame me, I know this is a question with an obvious answer to
some, but I am not one of them.
Installed FC3, but this time I decide to update since my ISOs are a bit
old, so typical yum update
Downloaded the FC3 SRPM for my kernel 2.6.12...
Installed the SRPM package
Ran rpmbuild -bp -target=i686 kernel-2.6.spec

why are warning be treated as errors?
Hello,
I am trying to compile RHEL-6 kernel srpm on Fedora 14 and run into the following problem. From what I read
-Werror flag causes warnings to be treated as errors - but I don't see that flag on in the following. Any ideas?
gcc -Wp,-MD,arch/x86/kernel/acpi/realmode/.wakemain.o.d -nostdinc -isystem /usr/lib/gcc/i686-redhat-linux/4.5.1/include -nostdinc -isystem

Easiest way to compile custom kernel, for fedora +openswan+xen+patchomatic
I want to compile a custom xenU kernel for a firewall distribution

version for this domU, I know what I need kernel+openswan+xen+patch-o-matic
but I not sure the best way to go about this, do I patch a fedora source or
start with a vanilla kernel?

Problems with building an rpm
I followed the setup instructions from
http://www.owlriver.com/tips/non-root/ (link from the Centos wiki). All
this is done on another 'clean' system, so I have to read the terminal
screen there and tell what went wrong here.
I then followed my colleague's instructions to get the tar, untar,
autogen, configure, and finally make rpm.
Well it was that make rpm command that finally

can i get .spec file for apache httpd of centos?
Hi All,
Currently my system is using httpd 2.2.27. As there were many Vulnerability fixes released under 2.2.29, I would like to upgrade the Apache httpd.
My system is having CentOS 6.5.
I checked on CentOS Repos using yum but could not find the latest httpd rpm from there. So I am building the httpd rpm from the source tar ball downloaded from apache site.
I am able to build the rpm successfully

VirtIO with CentOS 5.4
Hi, all,
I'm attempting to run a Windows 2003 (32-bit) VM under CentOS 5.4,
generally following:
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/KVM
I've seen nice performance benefits with the VirtIO driver under Fedora,
so I'd like to get that running with CentOS as well. I have the
September drivers build .iso.
According to:
http://www.linux-kvm.org/page/Virtio
I need a KVM version 60
