CentOS and typical usage
I share some of the frustration with Fedora developers "not listening" but I don't share all of the frustration. As far as customizing CentOS / Fedora for server vs desktop vs laptop vs whatever, to me that is a moot issue. In the server environment you almost certainly are using a virtual machine, and to use a virtual machine you create an image. Set up the image how you want

no longer goes to standby when lid is closed
since I got the big bolus of updates from the CR repo a few days ago my netbook (AcerAspire One D255E) will no longer go to standby when the lid is closed. This was a Gnome desktopp installation with theh MATE desktop fromm EPEL. I've verified that the correct setting still exists in power manager but it persists in continuing to run when the lid closes. it WILL go to standby if explicitly

I get acceptable performance on my T410 thinkpad with 4GB of memory and outstanding performance on my home built desktop with 16GB of memory. The T410 has been upgraded with an Intel SSD. Gnome3 on the Thinkpad was just painful.

Headphones volume control not working in CentOS 7
Hi all, I hope someone could enlighten me... How could I resolve the fact that the volume controls of all the headphones I try on CentOS 7 are not working, they are OK on CentOS 6 but impossible to make them work on my Thinkpad Laptop with an iPhone headphones or a Marshal Monitor plugged with a jack connector... Those 2 headphones work correctly in CentOS 6... What could I do to get the same

Switch off laptop screen when docked with lid close - CentOS 7
Hi, I'm using CentOS on a laptop that part of the time is connected to a docking station with two monitor connected to it. When the laptop lid is docked, its lid is closed, as the system is placed in a position where it's not convenient to keep it open, let alone look at the screen. Now in the past, with CentOS 5 (on a different laptop, but same physical config) and 6, the screen has

Any CentOS 6 Issues on Lenovo Y700?
Don't flame me, but I really recommend using Ubuntu on laptops. If you really want CentOS, you should go with version 7. Many new laptops won't work well with that either though. CentOS 6 only works well these days on older hardware or on virtual machines. On Apr 27, 2016 7:27 PM, "Brian Bernard" <brian.brianbernard at gmail.com> wrote: Hi all, I'm looking at buying

[RFC PATCH v3 5/5] ACPI: button: Always notify kernel space using _LID returning value
Both nouveau and i915, the only 2 kernel space lid notification listeners, invoke acpi_lid_open() API to obtain _LID returning value instead of using the notified value. So this patch moves this logic from listeners to lid driver, always notify kernel space listeners using _LID returning value. This is a no-op cleanup, but facilitates administrators to configure to notify kernel drivers with

Problem with pxelinux 5.10 and memtest86+ 4.20
Deal developers, I'd like to follow the thread http://www.zytor.com/pipermail/syslinux/2013-April/019761.html but change the subject to 'pxelinux 5.10 and memtest86+ 4.20' and provide more test cases. The pxelinux before version 5, e.g. version 4.06, worked very well with memtest86+ 4.20, all my PXE client machines, including VMWare workstation 9, VirtualBox 4.2, and all the real

Centos7.3-Mate
Hello All, I have this problem starting Centos7.3 - the official name escapes me at the moment. I often install Centos7 Minimal, then X Window System, then Mate desktop. This last step gives me trouble, and I have to run # yum groupinstall mate --skip-broken output: skipped packages: NetworkManager-I2tp ldns libreswan unbound-libs xl2tpd I realise this is probably an issue for EPEL
