Critical problem with power management CentOS 7.2
Thinkpad T410 running CentOS 7 with the Mate desktop (Gnome 3 is too
demanding on video capabilities for this hardware)
Under CentOS 7.1 - the laptop would sleep when I closed the lid.
It no longer does. I can tell because the laptop remains warm when I
close the lid now, mail filters in Thunderbird run when the lid is
closed, and it doesn't need to re-establish wifi when opening.

Sometimes the direction of UI development in gnome really angers me.
For example, when selecting a font for the gedit text editor - there is
no way to ask it to only show monospace fonts.
It's a fricken text editor, that should be the default - meaning you
have to do something special to get fonts shown that aren't monospace.
Seriously, who is in charge with the UI design in gnome?

I don't know, but that's why I use MATE.
I get acceptable performance on my T410 thinkpad with 4GB of memory and
outstanding performance on my home built desktop with 16GB of memory.
The T410 has been upgraded with an Intel SSD.
Gnome3 on the Thinkpad was just painful.

mate crash
While playing an audio in totem, the mate desktop crashed.
I couldn't switch to a console like I use to be able to do with
ctrl-alt-F{n} - seems that is gone is from CentOS.
I couldn't open a terminal by right clicking on the desktop.
I was able to open a folder, navigate to /usr/bin and open
gnome-terminal that way and issue the shutdown command.
Since switching to virtual consoles

I *really* dislike the new photon UI. I WANT the arrow buttons top and
bottom of the scrollbars.
Does anyone know how to bring them back, or is that "that's *sooo* last
year, you can't ever have them again"?

Alice, your rant is just whining.
It's open source. If you don't like it, modify it.
You cannot compare something which you basically get for free to what is
funded by for-profit companies.

Install Mate on Centos 7 and you never have to touch Gnome 3. I did, and my desktops don't look or work any different today than they did under Centos 6.
