Use of Wine to access devices via Windows programs
Am attempting, so far without success, to access an Olympus Digital Recorder. It is connected to my PC by USB cable but is not recognised in Linux.
Olympus do not provide software for Linux use.
Have installed Digital Wave Player, the windows program supplied by Olympus, in Wine and have had a USB drive installed in Wine Configuration but when I run Digital Wave Player there is no communication

OT: USB3 drive occasionally not detected
Hi Folks,
CentOS 5.5 x86_64
Asrock-Board with 2 USB3 plugs.
Normally USB3-drive is detected. But occasionaly after "umount" next time this
drive or other ones will not be detected.
I have to boot the PC - than it works - till next unrecognition.
On USB2 plugs all works correct.
No messages in /var/log/messages nor dmesg.
What happens here?
Board failure - or other reasons?

But how do you play all your old VCR tapes? As I said, I want to burn them
to disk, but I still have a working VCR.

USB 2.0 device on a USB 3.0 plug
When I plug in my device which is USB 2.0 into a 3.0 slot (cause that is
all I have)
[495042.943074] usb 5-2: new low-speed USB device number 6 using xhci_hcd
[495043.100076] usb 5-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71
I receive the above error.
Is there a flag or setting that tells the USB to in a 2.0 mode ?
Thanks,
Jerry

security=domain problems
Hi all,
We are having some problems getting a solaris 9(sparc) file server
running samba 2.2.2 to authenticate aginst a windows NT 4 PDC. Let me
say first that this was all working at one time, then we had some data
corrumption on our NFS mounted /usr/local, and had to restore from tape.
Due to some issues with solaris ufsdump and ufsrestore, stuff was not
quite put back properly. We do

Centos & USB3
I replaced my development machine with 6 cores, 32 GB etc.
I thought it would be simply inserting the existing HDDs and
changing /etc/sysconfig/ifcfg-eth0 but,
* in the UEFI "BIOS" USB2 and USB3 work.
* in C5.11 USB2 works but USB3 does not.
* in C6.5 (my install disk; OS be updated to C6.8) USB2 works but USB3
does not.
On both C5 and C6 lsusb shows an entry for the plugged-in

audio recorder compatibility
I'm shopping for a small/tiny audio recorder, the kind for recording in
a class, interviews, etc... not really music, just voice. Per usual, a
lot of these write their audio files in some Windows format, e.g., WMA.
As a confirmed Linux guy, I'd want to offload the audio files in some
format that Linux can read/play natively. I've read a sketchy
suggestion that there's a Linux

HEADSUP: USB da(4) quirks disabled for 4.9 and 5.2
If you have any of the devices listed below, please test with a recent
-stable or -current. They will stop working in 4.9 and 5.2 although old
behavior can _temporarily_ be enabled by adding "options DA_OLD_QUIRKS" to
your kernel config. If I don't hear from anyone, they'll be going away
permanently after the releases.

We recently upgraded to the latest Samba3 version v3.0.23c. If the Samba
