Proxy password questions
Hello All: I'm having a strange issue with the yum proxy settings. It is directly related to passwords containing exclamation points. For example, the following works fine in yum.conf: http_proxy=http://somentlmproxy.somecompany.com http_password=regularpassword However, if the password contains any exclamation points, it will not authenticate properly. E.g., a password such as

samba-tool classicupgrade throws uncaught exception
I have a new server running CentOS 6.4 x64, which will serve as our new Samba4 server. It is set up in a test environment, and I've copied over the tdb files and the smb.conf file from our samba3 server (Same OS and version). I'm trying to do an in-place upgrade on the copied files, but keep hitting an assert / uncaught exception during the upgrade: # /usr/local/samba/bin/samba-tool

wdTable() in R2wd
Hi all, I've been using the wdTable() function from R2wd package and it's been working great. However I just tried to do the following: > table.2 Waste Rebate code Chargeable (fin_map) Quantity (qty) Total [1,] "Waste" "Rebate code" "CHG" "121" "$22,534.01" [2,]

kickstart and logins.def question
Hello all: Happy New Year to everyone and thank you for all the knowledge this past year. I have a hopefully simple question about kickstart. In the authconfig section I can enable ldap, credential caching, etc.. Using the GUI tool there's an option to create the user home directories on first login. The docs don't show a similar option for authconfig in kickstart. For now I'm

Lagged values problem requiring short solution time
Hello, I am hoping someone can help tackle the problem below, for which I require a fast solution. It feels like there should be an elegant approach, but I am drawing blanks. Take a vector 'x' with random values > 0: x = runif(10,1,5) Assume some reasonably small positive value 'delta': delta = 0.75 The task is to find a solution vector 'y' of same length as

Neither scp nor sftp works (2.5.1p1 and Solaris 2.6) :(
Hi, sorry about bothering you like this but despite several tries my recent posts to ssh at clinet.fi never appear on that list, and I don't know where else to turn. I was unable to get sftp/scp to work when using OpenSSH 2.3.0p1. No one could solve this problem and evenutally I was told to try "a recent snapshot". Now I've installed 2.5.1p1, but still no cigarr :(. I have

Weird Okular/KDE error - thousand procs spawned
Hello all: I'm trying to troubleshoot a strange and repeatable error and not sure where to log the bug report. I subscribe to Linux Journal and download their PDF. The DLJ230.pdf opens in the Okular PDF reader from Konqueror. If I scroll down to the ad for some colo site (www.ovh.com) and click the right side of the page, I immediately start getting hundreds of alerts on the desktop. These

VMware?s memory ballooning feature purposely keeps some of the guest?s RAM locked away from the kernel. This is where RAM comes from when another guest needs more physical RAM than it currently has access to:

KVM host question about host firewall
Hello All: I'll ask this in the virt list later if this is not the appropriate forum... Yesterday I was troubleshooting an issue with a KVM host. I was unable to access the DNS service on a KVM virtual machine. After verifying that the vm allowed through the DNS ports (53 on UDP/TCP) and still being unable to access, I was able to connect immediately after allowing those ports on the

Seeking feedback on my first attempt at R programming
Hello Everyone,   Below is my first attempt at R programming. The code replicates example 5.1 from Common Statistical Methods for Clinical Research with SAS Examples. I was hoping that people more experienced than myself would be willing to take a look and let me know what I did well and what could have been done better. I'd be particularly grateful if anyone could tell me why the two user
