my DSL is delivered as an ethernet connection, there's nothing to
connect or disconnect, although I suppose I could use ifconfig eth0 up
and ifconfig eth0 down

Pricing for DS3000P
Yep anything over $7k makes it more feasible/reliable to go for multiple
server multi-card solution.

If you use Network Manager, just right-click on the little doodad in your panel bar and un-check "Enable networking". When you want to re-connect, right-click on the little doodad and check "Enable

D-Link DGE-550SX support
I found some ancillary information that seems to indicate that there is a
driver that will allow a D-Link DGE-550SX Gigabit fiber NIC to work under
FreeBSD 4.x. Can anyone confirm or refute this, or provide additional
information? If the NIC is not supported, is there a recommendation for a
gigabit fiber NIC that works well under 4.8?
Thanks,

blue screen instead of login screen
I installed Centos 6.2/i386 on a machine last night with a 1920x1080 monitor.
The installer ran in graphical mode and looked fine. After the install was
finished I rebooted and ran through the "firstboot" stuff (set up user, etc)
with no problem and, again, it looked good.
After that, when I should have seen the gdm login screen, all I got was the
blue background but not the box with

RSS Feed / xml.link problem?
I''m having an odd problem. I''m trying to create an RSS feed (working off the
Recipe), but "xml.link" generates error about "Can''t convert Hash to
String". From the error trace, it *looks* like it''s calling the a fileutil
''link'' method (as in, filesystem symbolic link) - even xml.tag! generates
this error.
Er, how do I make

PATCH: Allow specifying the filesystem driver for guestmount
Currently guestfish has mount-vfs, and the libguestfs API has
guestfs_mount_vfs(), but guestmount doesn't allow the user to specify
a filesystem. This patch extends the --mount argument, so you can
force an ext2 partition to mount as ext4:
guestmount -a mydisk.img -m /dev/vda:/:defaults:ext4 mountpoint
You could also use it to choose between ntfs and ntfs-3g, or between
hfsplus and the

Fwd: Newbie here. Tips on setting up 100 phones wanted.
So in order to answer the background and backbone questions here is
the system as it is. I hope this isn't too much for the list but I'll
post it in response to a few inquiries.
The current system is quite interesting.
We have an office in a town that is about 50 miles from
the ski area. The ski area is powered 100% of of generators and the
telephone access and internet access goes from

interesting comment. New Physics?
While browsing about, found http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/TDM400P, where I found this comment:
"Here's a tip passed on from an old telephone engineer. Where your copper 2-wire cable approaches the building, underground, finish with several large loops, about a metre in diameter, laid on top of each other. Fast moving, high energy spikes will spin off the outside of the loop as they

OT: VoIP over bonded link
I have to provision several dozen * users to a seperate building on our
campus in the same subnet. Ordinarily, I'd just run a gigabit cat6 cable to
another switch if it doesn't violate the 100 metre rule, but this building
is several hundred metres away from my backbone. My only option for cabling
to the remote building is copper. My plan is to provision them with a Linux
bridge with 4

Dry Copper Pair
Hi,
Does anyone know of a way to get a dry copper pair (also known as an alarm
line) from Verizon for less than $20/end? I know we have been able to get
them, but they come out to $40/month for a circuit.. and there's no
dial-tone over it!!!!

Advice on vlans and pppoe
My telco is moving to feeding me over fiber, breaking out with a media
converter to one Ethernet interface. At present, I am retaining the
static feed over copper on eth0, and taking the two new feeds via vlans
on eth1. I have configured the static IP feed on eth1:790 as vlan 790,
and that seems to be fine, and eth1:780 as the PPPOE feed, and brought
up PPPOE to give me an IP, that is

xsl, xml, ARRGH!
Hello...
Coming from an Icecast 1 background, I tend to like the admin
functionality of Icecast1 over Icecast2. Fixing this is but some file
editing away, I supposed.
I'm trying to simplify the administration screens for myself and
co-sysop.
In testing, if I copy the listclients.xsl into the web directory, it
works like I would like... almost. I get a listing of every stream on the

LDAP users issue
Hi Team,
I have enabled LDAP authentication with webmail client and it works
successfully. But I found an error with LDAP user's mail. Email is not
loaded when I log with an LDAP user. Login phase is successful and mail box
is the issue. I created a mail user without including LDAP and that user
works fine.
Issue comes only with LDAP users.

LAN switches with PoE? PoE phones?
Hi all,
I'm looking for recommendations on ethernet switches for a new
install. Ideally would want switches with at least 24 ports,
ideally with a GE uplink, and that support PoE (power over
ethernet) on every port. I've seen lots of switches, and lots of
"power hubs", but the combination, which makes a lot of sense,
seems rare. What is out there? Do the switches need to be
