The volume control might be controlling the volume on an unused output. Well, I don't think so... there are only two choices there, Headphones and Line Out.

Sword Project for centos 5
Hi! Anyone know of RPMS for the Sword Project (and Bibletime and/or GnomeSword) for Centos5/RHEL5? Latest RPMS I've found have a ton of dependencies, some of which are older than packages I've already got. Thanks! -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- .---- Fred Smith / ( /__ ,__. __ __ / __ : / / / /

Gnome weather applet stranded
I've rebuilt libmateweather for EL7 with the aforementioned patch and it seems to have fixed the issue. Feel free to use it until EPEL package the fix. http://li.nux.ro/download/nux//tmp/libmateweather7/ -- Sent from the Delta quadrant using Borg technology! mounting CDROM without mapaping UC to LC
Hi! this is surely a newbie question, so I should know the answer, but I'm fighting with mounting a CD such that filenames are NOT mapped to lowercase (I need to use its on-board tools for accessing files on it while mounted on Centos 6.5, and those tools assume uppercawse, since they assume the entire world runs Windoze.) but despite my best efforts, it keeps being mounted with UC-LC

Mplayer and VDPAU
Does anyone here know if the mplayer from rpmfusion (mplayer-1.0-0.41.svn20090711.el5.rf) was compiled with VDPAU support? I've looked on the mplayer web site and it says you can use vdpau, but it doesn't say HOW. Would that be with something like "-vo vdpau" ?? Anaconda crashing on new machine
Hi! I'm building up a new computer and this evening have had several events during installation in which Anaconda has crashed. It's not clear that there is a lot of commonality between the different crashes. the first time I got all the way through package selection (selecting at the individual package level) before it crashed. the second time I made a mistake in partitioning and did

upgrading 32-bit installation to 64-bit
Hi! I've got a 32-bit Centos installed on an AMD Phenom II X2 processor and I'm interested ni making it 64 bit instead. But I'd sure like to avoid having to go back thru the whole installation again... in part because I've got sotware RAID set up and I'm assuming that I can't do a fresh install into it without having to re-configure the whole thing. So, is it possible

X11 problem with remote login via SSH
HI all! Strange problem that began occurring in last few weeks. Centos 5.4, up to date. I sometimes log in remotely via ssh using "ssh -X" and read mail via mutt. Now and then I want to use balsa instead. This has always worked (for years) though it's kinda slow... but in the last few weeks it has begun failing and spewing errors like this, repeatedly, apparently forever until I

Can someone help with SpamBayes problem?
I've posted to the SpamBayes users list, but there seems to be no traffic there, so I've had no replies. If there is anyone here using SpamBayes, I'd appreciate some advice or at least suggestions.... I'm running Centos 5.8 here. Day before yesterday I decided to look and see if there was a newer SpamBayes than I was then using. lo and behold, there was. I was using 1.1a4, and

IOMMU error at boot time
Hi all! I've just recently noticed these lines in the dmesg output: Please enable the IOMMU option in the BIOS setup This costs you 64 MB of RAM they may have been there forever, but I never noticed them before. This system is an AMD Phenom-II X2 CPU on a Gigabyte MA770-UD3 motherboard. I have no idea which BIOS option I need to change to solve this, I see nothing in the setup that

As in subject, am attempting to install latest LibreOffice on C7. unpack all the rpm files, type "yum install *.rpm", or "yum localinstall *.rpm" and yum spews the list of filenames (with the word "examining" in front of each file) then says "nothing to do". what the hey? I tried "yum clean all" but it didn't help. I also verified the
