It wouldn't be the first time. I had problems with the i3 instances
when they first came out, and I've been dealing with kernel/hardware

Weird. There seems to be quite a bit of software missing from C7.2,
gnome-applets being one of them. Or has it been moved or renamed or
otherwise obscured?

Mounting LUNs from a SAN array - LUN mappings to devices in /dev/ - are they static?
Hi All :)
I am currently involved in a project in which there is a SAN array (Sun
Storagetek 2540) which exports LUNs for some servers with Centos 5.2 x86. I
will be performing a migration to Centos 5.9 x86_64 in some time and am
gathering needed info now :)
I am trying to find the place in the OS where there is the information
about LUN mappings to /dev/ devices.
For example on array level I

Paperclip not executing FFMPEG properly
Im using a customs processor to run ffmpeg on a video to create a
thumbnail.
So far so good. Except when I do:
cmd = "-i #{@file.path} -f flv -s 320x240 ~/Downloads/foobar/q.flv"
success = Paperclip.run(''ffmpeg'', cmd)
Console is reporting:

Learning Rails - Advice for development environment
Hello,
I have been learning Rails for several weeks now. I am working through
Michael Hartl''s tutorial and other various things. My question is basically
regarding what type of environment to do my development in. First, some
background:
I have used different linux distros on and off throughout the years, so it
was easy and familiar for me to set up my desktop computer with Mint and

CentOS 7 AMIs and deletion of root volumes on AWS when terminating instances
Hi,
We have noticed that the CentOS 7 AMIs in AWS do not delete their root
volumes on termination. It appears this is the way that the AMIs were
created. The AWS Linux AMIs appear to have this enabled. So they do
delete their root volumes on termination.
Does anyone know why the CentOS AMIs are created so that they don't
delete their root volumes on termination?

c6a and m6a AMD Epyc AWS EC2 instances support for CentOS 8 AMI Marketplace 47k9ia2igxpcce2bzo8u3kj03
Hello,
We have launched some EC2 servers 6 month ago using the CentOS 8
MarketPlace AMI 47k9ia2igxpcce2bzo8u3kj03 (
https://aws.amazon.com/marketplace/pp/prodview-ndxelprnnxecs)
Now we have migrated these servers to CentOS Stream 8.
We can change the instance type of these servers until m6i and c6i Intel
based CPU, but we cannot change the instance type to new ADM Epyc c6a and
m6a. There is an

if-else that returns vector
?ifelse
'ifelse' returns a value with the same shape as 'test' which is
filled with elements selected from either 'yes' or 'no' depending
on whether the element of 'test' is 'TRUE' or 'FALSE'.
This is actually rather startling, because elsewhere in the
S (R) language, operands are normally replicated to the length
of the longer.

data usage
hello,
for my present project i need to use the data stored in a ca. 100mb
stata dataset.
when i import the data in R using:
library("foreign")
x<-read.dta("mydata.dta")
i find that R needs a startling 665mb of memory!
(in stata i can simply allocate, say, 128mb of memory and go ahead)
is there anyway around this, or should i forget R for analysis of
datasets of

Floating point "fuzz" and rpart?
I've been using rpart with R (1.3.0 Windows) for some time. I recently ran
one of my research data sets through the rpart routine and produced a
classification tree. I tried to replicate the results of the rpart
analysis on another machine of mine and discovered some startling
differences in the results. Puzzled, I went back to the raw data residing
on both machines. I printed out

Seeing two different user folders!!!!!
In my high school computer lab I have Red HAt 5.0 with SAMBA being
used as a file server. The kids are getting used to it. But recently
I'm seeing something strange. A student with id "james" will log on
Windows 95, go to network neighborhood and to the Linux computer and
find there among other normal items two folders. The first will be
his own folder with his id, but the second

New Forum
a combination list+forum
(all forum posts are posted to list,
all list posts are posted to forum)
seems to work well for some other projects I work on,
but I also don't mind having them separate if that's easier.

VoIP Users Conference Call Friday Nov 7 On Wideband Voice & Conferencing
This Friday's edition of the weekly VoIP Users Conference call is all
about wideband audio (aka HD Voice) and conferencing. The guest for
this call is David Frankel, CEO of ZipDX a commercial service that
specializes in wideband conferencing. We expect an interesting call
touching on many aspects of VoIP going beyond the traditional phone
service, conference bridges, technical standards,

if-else that returns vector
Hi,
Following expression returns only the first element
ifelse(T, c(1,2,3), c(5,6))
However I am looking for some one-liner expression like above which
will return the entire vector.
Is there any way to achieve this?

RAIDZ(2) expansion?
I skimmed the archives and found a thread from July earlier this year
about RAIDZ expansion. Not adding more RAIDZ stripes to a pool, but
adding more drives to the stripe itself. I''m wondering if an RFE has
been submitted for this and if any progress has been made, or is
expected? I find myself out of space on my current RAID5 setup and
would love to flip over to a ZFS raidz2 solution

I don''t know what it is with puppet''s certificates, but once again, they are
