OpenSCAP failures to to OS version?
Hi - I?m running the OpenSCAP STIG profile on a new CentOS 7.1611 installation, and I get a few failures that look like this (output from openscap scan ?verbosity INFO). I suspect this is because the openscap module is not accepting CentOS 7 as RHEL 7 for rules purposes, despite an early check for "Community Enterprise Operating System 7? which succeeds. 1. Am I correct in why it?s

CentOS 7.3.1611 scap-security-guide issue
Hello, I have noticed that pci-dss profile, ssg-centos7-xccdf.xml will always fail on test and remediation for disable_prelink rule. That seem to be caused by insufficient CentOS RPM customization of upstream code. Specifically this: https://github.com/OpenSCAP/scap-security-guide/blob/master/shared/oval/disable_prelink.xml#L24-L35

CentOS Digest, Vol 60, Issue 13
Another issue to consider with SSDs is that they are based on Flash technology. Each flash cell can only be written on about 10,000 to 100,000 times or so (*), so if you're using extensive read/write on your server you will be impacted. SSD manufacturers go around this issue by giving some intelligence to the drive controllers, so that they minimize the per-cell usage (which means moving

CentOS Security Advisories OVAL feed??
Dear List, I have spent some time playing around with oscap and the RHEL OVAL feed (https://www.redhat.com/security/data/oval/v2/RHEL8/, also check Chapter 16 of the RHEL 8 Design Guide). Because I could not find an existing OVAL file for CentOS, I downloaded one of the RHEL8 files and managed to modify (eg. the rhel-8.1-e4s.oval.xml) it to make it work on a CentOS machine. Basically I just

Interpreting data from 220V input APC UPS
Sounds pretty normal from what I see. It appears that this is *NOT* a true 240v UPS, but rather one that provides two legs of 120v output from two legs of 120 input, and what is seen as "L2" is actually neutral, and the line names are reporting incorrectly. With that in mind, each leg in should be 120v, as well as the outputs, which is exactly what you are seeing.(The fact tht L1 to L3

Interpreting data from 220V input APC UPS
Thanks, Tim. The unit was available with single as well as split phase output, and from the data I can find the input was single phase, though the input connector has L1/L2/N/G wires. I'm digging through the MIB to see what the raw data looks like. Thanks! John ---- On 11/11/24 19:14, Tim Dawson wrote: > Sounds pretty normal from what I see. It appears that this is *NOT* a > true

SMART3000RM2U?
Can anyone point me to information for getting the Tripplite SMART3000RM2U to work with NUT? Our newer Tripplite units seem to work with the usbhid-ups driver, but these older ones seem to need something different. So far I have had little success getting tripplite_usb to work. Using wine for automatization

html-scanner in controller?
Rails'' docs state for strip_tags: "Strips all HTML tags from the input, including comments. This uses the html-scanner tokenizer and so it?s HTML parsing ability is limited by that of html-scanner.Returns the tag free text." What''s "html-scanner" (some brief Googling didn''t find anything definitive) and can I use it in a controller? Joe --

WEB SCANNER
I was wondering what was a good web scanner to scan IIS servers. I played with nikto, but i'm not sure if it does IIS or not. It seems to only look for CGI stuff. Thanks.

Looking for volunteers to test nut-scanner against APC USB UPSes
From https://github.com/networkupstools/nut/issues/26 : > Unfortunately I have only this UPS for testing purposes right now. It might makes sense to ask people on the nut mailinglist if they can send the result nut-scanner -qU if they have the same APC UPS. If you have a USB-based APC UPS, could you please send the list the output from "nut-scanner -qU"? You can remove the serial
