sshd unhandled SIGALRM
sshd will die from an unhandled SIGALRM if you allow SSH1 connections,
ssh in, HUP sshd, and don't ssh in again for KeyRegenerationInterval.
The HUP handler calls exec which resets signal handlers but persists
alarm timers. Chapter and verse:

FW: : Re: Multiple smbd processes generated
Dear Dave,
Doesn't this only work if you're using samba as a domain
controller and the client says "net use h: /home"
I've not got it to redirect "//server1/username" to "//server2/username"
when the NIS map says "user server2:/path/&"
Though if it could be done I'd be VERY keen.

sshd Termination by SIGALRM
Hi,
I am seeing a problem where in sshd gets terminated by SIGALRM.
sshd was listening on the socket and was not restarted.
I saw a recent bug fix in openBSD openssh CVS which mentions:
Clear alarm() before restarting sshd on SIGHUP. Without this, if there's
a SIGALRM pending (for SSH1 key regeneration) when sshd is SIGHUP'ed, the
newly exec'ed sshd will get the SIGALRM and

[PATCH nbdkit 12/13] wrapper: Port the wrapper to run on Windows.
This also defines SOEXT as the extension of shared objects (ie. "so"
or "dll"), and uses it everywhere. I assumed this must already be
defined by either autoconf or mingw (like OBJEXT) but I cannot find
anything except in glib (G_MODULE_SUFFIX).
Thanks: Zebediah Figura for helping out with exec vs spawn on Windows.

RAID-1 strategy for a CentOS/Xen server?
Hi,
I'm planning to migrate my current server configuration:
AMD Athlon/X2
FreeBSD 62-Release
2 x 250GB HW RAID1 (all partitions RAIDed, incl. swap)
to a Xen/CentOS config:
AMD Athlon/X2
Dom0
CentOS 51
Xen 31
Dom1/1
FreeBSD 7
Dom1/2
CentOS 51
...
To "best preserve" RAID1 mirroring protections of OS, Data, etc

Globalize strategy for content ?
Hello,
what are your strategy for using Globalize to translate sites with lot
of full text ? I mean where do you translate your String ?
I saw on the swen''s wiki
(http://www.artweb-design.de/articles/2006/06/13/real-fun-get-on-rails-with-globalize-take-2),
that you can use the locale:set_translation method:
Locale.set_translation(''Welcome'',

Looking to collaborate on web based strategy game
Hello everyone,
I''ve been hooked on the idea for a while to make a Rails and AJAX powered
strategy game. In the past I''ve enjoyed working on mod teams for FPSs in my
free time but I''m hooked on the Ruby language and all the cool stuff you can
do with AJAX now . I have created a few internal web applications for my
contract work using Rails, so I''m quite

Opinions requested on localization strategy
All,
Our application will require initially English and Spanish user
interfaces. There may be little or no database data that must be
translated, but that is a bit up in the air. The UI instructional text
as well as error messages will definately require translation.
I have looked at the gettext article, the new globalization plugin, and
the localization plugin. Each appears to have some

Strategy for handling historical dates while avoiding timezones
Currently using t.datetime, dates get stored with a timezone and a non-
zero time. This is bad.
A date restricted to the Unix epoch is unacceptable. The date range
must be at least back to 1800.
Need a recommendation on what SQL column type, Rails column type and
Ruby object type would be the best choice, and how to avoid timezones.

ChanIsAvail function is breaking the round robin strategy
Hello everybody,
i have two gsm line (extra channels) and i'd like to schedule the
outgoing calls with a round-robin strategy.
If all the gsm lines are busy, the call must be sent to the pri lines
with a linear strategy.
here is the dialplan:
exten => gsm,ChanIsAvail(EXTRA/r2&DAHDI/g1)
same => n,GotoIf($["${AVAILORIGCHAN}" = ""]?unavail,1)

Common Inter-Queues Leastrecent Strategy
Hi list:
Is there any way, to set a common inter-queues leastrecent Strategy, i'm
searching a Behaviour like this:
2 Queues Q1 and Q2
2 Agentes A1 and A2
Both agents are in both queues.
First Call in the system is for Q1 and is answer by A1
The next call in the system is for Q2, both agents are free,

backup mdbox best strategy
Hello,
i have to backup (tape library) a mailsystem with about 300.000
Mailboxes on 2 backends. Summary of all mailboxes are 2 TByte.
The mailstore is mdbox.
Is it save to do a simple filesystem backup (full and incremental) with
backupsoftware?
What is the prefered strategy to do a backup for desaster recovery
(mailsystem crash) and restoring single usermailboxes?

Claus

[Bridge] Best strategy for forward all packets (simulate promiscuous mode)
Hi there :)
I would like to submit a use case we are here: our company make
network probes with 1 administravia interface and the rest in
promiscuous mode to listen traffic. I've made virtualized server with
Qemu. All Qemu instances (with 2 tap) listen on:
br0 (admin int)
br1 (receive traffic)
The need is each tap on br1 must listen *all* traffic (unicast,
multicast...). For this, I sets

dynamic model strategy
Hello,
I'm hoping someone may know the most likely R package for a multivariate population model for comparing groups? That is, I'd like to estimate a (stochastic) model for one batch of experiments against a different batch growing under different conditions. I'm a bit familiar with grofit, but also reading about dse and dlm.
Following Bolker's Ch. 11 it seems there are many paths

What is the best strategy for updating CentOS from 4 to 5?
No doubt I have waited just a little too long, but I think it is time to
upgrade before it is not supported. My server is not heavily used
(mostly for viewing images) and my Admin skills are better than beginner
but NOT guru.

Re: New Server Recommendation -- disk label strategy, quotas, etc...

Let me clarify that -- I still put the _whole_ disk under LVM/LVM2
(maybe leaving a legacy BIOS/DOS primary 256MB in a pre-formatted
FAT16 if I need it for firmware updates). But instead of pre-allocating
"spares" of
