Re: Sid Meier´s Alpha Centauri
Where SMAC(X) stands for Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri (Alien Crossfire)
I've been running a copy of SMACX installed in Windows on my C:/ partition from linux (Ubuntu 10.10).
After mounting the windows partition I only had to make the following changes to Alpha Centauri.ini to play the game:
Code:
eax=0
ds3d=0
ForceOldVoxelAlgorithm=1
I haven't tested it much at all, but it seems

Re: Sid Meier´s Alpha Centauri
Alpha Centauri is a very old game and hasn't received any love from the developers in a long time. The rights for the game are disputed as well, meaning future support is doubly unlikely.
So I don't think the unofficial patch will age any more than an official patch would.
I still haven't done any meaningful tests of the game running in wine (started one game, played a multiplayer

alpha centauri
I am trying to get alpha centrauri to work under wine. I know it exists on
linux version also, but I already have bought the windows version some time
ago (stupid me) so I would like to at least TRY to get it working..
so, my problem is, that I can start it, but I am missing some colors, I
think, and graphics perhaps.. the first menu that comes, where you select
the game type etc, looks OK

Re: Sid Meier´s Alpha Centauri
Looks like I can't edit posts.
Also of possible interest, I was using v1.0 of the unofficial patch by scient, available here (http://www.weplayciv.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=240). However, I don't suspect that made a difference. If I get round to more thorough testing I'll add a version and some more notes to the appDB.
Comments welcome.

Sid Meier´s Alpha Centauri
I can get this game to install and launch, but it does not run properly or at all.
I have:
Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope AMD64 Alternate
Wine 1.1.18
Cedega 7.1.1
Sid Meier?s Alpha Centauri and Alien Crossfire CDs (Sold Out version)
The game is best played with the expansion pack, Alien Crossfire. Alien Crossfire and Alpha Centauri are both available in linux versions, if you can find them.

Alpha Centauri crashes constantly
I'm using wine 1.2-rc5 on Xubuntu 10.04.
I've been trying to get Alpha Centauri/Alien Crossfire working for a few days now and running into nothing but annoyance so far. Latest problem; AC keeps crashing. All the time. If I save at a certain point and, say make a specific series of moves next turn and it crashes, re-loading and repeating will cause it to crash again.

First I would like to say how proud of and thankful to all the people
who help out with wine. Its a great project and a lifesaver for
everyone trying to get away from being tied to windows. With that being

Is anyone using X.org instead of XFree86 implementation of X Windows?
I just upgraded my machine from Slackware 9.1 (using XFree86) to Slackware 10.0 which uses X.org instead. A simple notepad.exe gives errors when started. This did not have this problem under the previous setup. Is anyone using X.org ???

problems with installer for bridge base online
I'm attempting to run the Bridge Base Online installer
(ftp://www.bridgebase.com/bbo_setup.exe) under wine, but something
isn't working.
wine bbo_setup.exe produces no error output, and very briefly displays
the splash screen before exiting with a successful status.
winedbg bbo_setup.exe produces:
fixme:console:SetConsoleCtrlHandler (0x405be730,1) - no error checking
or testing yet

Upgrade 20040914.
Hello,
I made a "wine" upgrade from 2003121 to 20040914. I then installed a
program "EasyBridge" that worked perfect with the 2003121 version. The
installation was without any problems, and at the end of the
installation the program started automatically, also withouth problems.
But when I later on recall the program with "wine EasyBridge.exe" I get

Wine compiles but dosen't run
Since version 20020509 I've had nothing but problems, so I decided to
reinstall the OS, format all partitions, and reinstall all drivers and
programs and updates in the hope that wine will then work correctly.
It's taken about 11 hours; I've now installed wine again, but for some
reason I had to do make install --ignore-errors; wine did not start
after wineinstall; I now get this

Wine on Cygwin
Hi,
It's been some time since the question was asked: Does wine now compile on
cygwin?
I know there are some apps and games out there that just won't run under
Win2k/XP anymore and for them a wine running under Win2k/Xp would be like the
perfect solution.
Has anyone infos on this?
Thanks in advance
Jeff

New dcom95 mirror
Hello,
as Jeremy Newman wanted mirrors for dcom95, here's a new link
http://www003.portalis.it/115/download/dcom95.zip
Note that because of the Microsoft licencing conditions, you are
licenced to download
this file only if you are going to use it with wine.
