Open/Save issue
I'm not sure if this is a bug, or if this is specifically related to my current install. I remember about six months ago using Wine on Ubuntu, and I believe it worked fine... So maybe it's an issue with my install. (I'm on PCLinuxOS 2007 if that helps. I'm running the latest Wine, I had to compile it myself... the latest one in the Synpatic is about 7 versions old.) Anyways,

Hi All, Wondering if there is a document that tells how to get wine printing through a cups printer working? Yes I know the wine docs say it's all magic and if you're using cups your printing will magically work, but for some reason, it doesn't, my wine session crashes and burns when I try to print from the built in notepad (or any other apps I've tried: in particular, Lotus

Executing an external executable from within R?
For example, from within an R script I would like to be able to launch NotePad.exe. Is there an R call for launching Notepad.exe from within R? I've tried the following, but they don't seem to work: > system(paste('"C:/WINDOWS/NOTEPAD.exe"'), wait = FALSE) > system("C:/WINDOWS/NOTEPAD.exe", wait = FALSE) > system("NOTEPAD", wait = FALSE)

R 1.1.0 Freeze Ups
I've experienced numerous "freeze ups" with R 1.1.0 in the past few days. I'm running on a Windows 98 (*not SE*) notebook with 128 MB RAM. Typically I have no other applications running when I load "R". The circumstances that frequently leads to the "freeze ups" is when I have done the following: >fix(somefunction) This spawns "Notepad",

Can't get wine to run any programs: included error message.
Okay I just installed the latest ver of Ubuntu and then installed the beta ver of Wine because the non-beta told me that it wouldn't install on AMD x 64 type computers. So I just installed the beta Wine version and I can't get any programs to run at all using wine. I also am having many pages on this forum stalling out, so i tried to read the user manual but i am not able to load it.

(off topic) Re: Notepad
The discussion on editors prompts the following comments. 1) One reason I put "Kickstarting R" together is that most people come to R as migrants; they already have an editor, a browser, etc. that they know how to use. Learning one thing is easier than learning many (Jon Baron's comment on interference is most relevant). 2) NotePad isn't a great editor, but it will serve for

Problem running Windows Notepad under Wine
Gentlefolk, I need to give someone the ability to create Windows-format text documents, which I can then copy (via SMB) to a W2000 machine for further processing. I've got the file-sharing up and running, and Wine installed and running Windows Notepad OK, but I've hit a snag trying to set it up to load Notepad automatically when the file-icon is clicked :- Environment - ubuntu 6.06,

Problem with Notepad ++
If you are saying other programs are saying this as well it could be your windows system got corrupted and is not reporting mtime correctly to underlying programs. Try on a fresh install of windows or some other computer to be sure. 20050830 is up but where next
I've just installed 20050830 from source on an FC4 box. I used the suggested method in the readme: ./tools/wineinstall It appears to work - if I type 'notepad' from a bash terminal, notepad opens right up - all the instructions say to use 'wine notepad' but I don't need to include wine. Just typing 'notepad' starts the program. My question is, where next?

Successful compile of Wine
I was able to compile and run Wine successfully this morning. I can now run WELCOME.EXE, CALC.EXE & NOTEPAD.EXE where I am currently putting windows (non-catalization intentional) programs in /c/windows. I do have a coule of questions however. I get an error saying basically an exported function needed from MSVCRT.DLL is not found, try using the native one instead when running NOTEPAD.EXE

wine notepad - simple Wine failure
Hi, Someone mind verfiying this simple test? Using wine-20041019 run wine notepad Notepad comes up. Choose 'Page Setup'. Dialog box comes up. Choose OK. Dialog box does not go away. Choose cancel. Dialog box does not go away. Only way out (for me) is to dismiss the box in the upper right hand corner controls. Does anyone know what the origin of this version of Notepad is? Possibly
