BUG 4.2.2: xl cd-insert corrupts xenstore state
$ git checkout RELEASE-4.2.2
$ git clean -ffdx
[do a build, install, reboot]
$ xl create a0
$ xl cd-eject a0 hdc
[However, the guest OS still sees the CD inserted]
$ xl block-list a0
Segmentation fault
$ xl cd-insert a0 hdc file:/images/xs-tools-6.0.0.iso
Segmentation fault
The problem seems to be that xl cd-eject is writing corrupt values to
xenstore. Note that vbd/1/5632 is still there

[PATCH 0/3] libxl cd-insert/eject with qemu-xen
This patch series provides the facility to eject and insert a cdrom when the
used device-model is qemu-xen. The only difference between both device-model is
a call to a QMP command as `xl cd-insert ...` will still update xenstore, even
if it''s not used by QEMU.
Anthony PERARD (3):
libxl_qmp, Introduce libxl__qmp_insert_cdrom.
libxl_dm: Set an id to cdrom drives with qemuu.

Is there still no easier way to shrink a VM image?
I have numerous qcow2 images which need to be reduced in size and have
their maximum size (virtual size) reduced. Physical disk space became
so low that VMs "auto-paused" themselves, I moved enough images to solve
the immediate problem but need to rectify the underlying issue. It
seems that qcow[2] files are grown in size such that the data inside of
them takes about 50-60% of the

Re: Is there still no easier way to shrink a VM image?
Thanks for letting me know I'm not making myself clear, let me try again with a few more specifics, These are Windows VMs with three disk images for C:, D: and L:. To simplify I'll focus on the image for C: which had grown to 77G physical size on the hypervisor's ssd (I just double-checked that with 'ls -al' because qemu-img below says 70G, this image had two snapshots at one

claiming unsused space back
If you are using XFS - there is mount option "discard|nodiscard"
From XFS man page:
discard|nodiscard
Enable/disable the issuing of commands to let the block device reclaim space freed by the filesystem. This is useful for SSD devices, thinly provisioned LUNs and virtual machine images, but may have a performance impact.

cd doesn't eject
At the moment I'm installing world of warcraft, which has 5 disks and the expansion which has another 4 disks. Now it works nicely, until the installation program asks me for disk 2. On windows it ejects automatically, but here it doesn't. It doesn't even eject when i try using the konsole command ( wine eject ). If I do that, the program says ( Cannot open device for drive e: ).

How can I stop the eject of the DVD after install?
I have created my own install DVD with a custom kickstart file and modified the isolinux.cfg file to allow the system to boot off of the hard disk as the default mode. It will also use my kickstart file if I select it.
Now I would like to make the system not eject the DVD after reboot. The machines I am installing on do not have a motorized tray that can automatically pull the DVD back in when a

External snapshot issue
I have used
virsh snapshot-create-as <VM name> <snapshot name> "<snapshot
description>" --diskspec
"vda,snapshot=external,file=/path/to/external-snapshot" --disk-only
--atomic
to create an external snapshot of a running VM. I followed it with
virsh blockpull <VM name> --path /path/to/external-snapshot
and monitored it until done.

Help installing software with multiple cd's
I have been trying to install several games, and all of the ones that have more than one disk fail, one way or another, at the point of changing cd's. Some (doom3) just quit [there exists an alternative plan for doom3], and others (Baldur's Gate-SoA) lock up the cd and won't let go. The only way to get the cd out is to kill the installer. I found the instructions on WineHQ, which say

[1.3] Cannot eject drive D:
Hi there.
I would install Call of Duty 1 on my laptop (C2D 2Ghz, 4GB DDR3, 9600M GS) on Gentoo ~amd64 with wine 1.3.0.
The beginning of the installation is just fine, but when I've to put the 2nd disc, I cannot eject D: with "wineconsole cmd", or umount /mnt/cdrom?
Anyone could bring here some help ? I try to install it with ISO files.
Thanks in advance !

Wine eject doesn't eject.
Latest wine, ubuntu 9.04
I'm trying to install Tron 2.0, but, when it asks for the second CD, wine eject fails. It takes the command, but doesn't seem to actually do anything. Outside of the installer, though, wine eject does work. I've tried launching the installer all of the different ways listed in the FAQ also; all wouldn't work.
Is there some fix for this, or a way to do it

Writing a tool for Shared Persistent Windows Boot Image
Before, in my "Hard Problem" email I was trying to communicate a

This is what we need to do:
1) Deploy 24 Windows XP VMs in parallel.
2) Boot them from a shared Windows XP C: drive.
3) Since this is a read-only shared image we obviously can''t have
multiple VM''s writing to it.
4) All writes to the boot image for logging,

proper config for qemu's host_cdrom
Greetings,
I was wondering what is the proper way to configure a scsi cdrom pass-through so in when the qemu line is generated, host_Cdrom will be used instead of host_device.
looking at https://gitlab.com/libvirt/libvirt/-/blob/master/src/qemu/qemu_block.c#L1090, I see that hostcdrom must be true.
in order for that to be true, the following must be (see
