Fw: Error attaching tape drive device to KVM guest
A quick follow-up in case anyone else is trying to use IBM tape device within a KVM guest. I didn't get SCSI passthrough below working, but there were two alternatives recommended to me: (1) Use PCI passthrough to give the KVM guest dedicated access to the Fibre Channel HBA PCI card. PCI passthrough seems to be more solid. (2) Use ISCSI to share the tape devices and tape changer

SAS HBA address and SCSI passthrough
Hi, For some time now (starting with the 3.10 or 3.11 kernels, but I'm not sure) I have the following problem: I have a machine with 6 SATA slots and two SAS controllers, one onboard HBA and one RAID controller in a PCIe slot. The problem is that the order of the SAS controllers changes randomly after a reboot, so the SCSI addresses of the devices change. One time lsscsi prints (empty

Hi, John, and thank you! This was a very thorough and welcome response, I was wondering where all the storage guys were... I will get back to you with more details later, specifically about multipath, since this needs to be investigated thoroughly. I have, with trial and error method, during the elapsed time, been able to attach the NPIV pool LUN to a virtio-scsi controller, and it seems it

Tape drive problems
Hi, Hi, I have been googling, and can't find anything that will help me: mt -f /dev/st0 status /dev/st0: No such device or address Any suggestion? I am using CentOS 3 [RHEL ES3 without the licenses] The tape drive is recognized at boot [from dmesg] scsi0 : Adaptec AIC7XXX EISA/VLB/PCI SCSI HBA DRIVER, Rev 6.2.36 <Adaptec 29160 Ultra160 SCSI adapter> aic7892:

Re: attaching storage pool error
Hi again! Need to add here, since I been investigating a bit further, that it seems to be possible to add an NPIV vhba to the guest, using vdsm hooks. I've seen the reference to "host device assignments", which Dan pointed me too, but I didn't really understand the meaning of it at that moment. It would be interesting to hear from someone that have been doing it, how it would

Quantum scalar i40 tape partitions
Hi All, I have a Quantum scalar i40 tape library. I need to configure it to TWO tape partition libraries, e.g., library_a and library_b, so that each library has its own tape drive. Then connect this physical tape library to two different CentOS servers so that each server can see its own media changer and tape drive. I once had a successful configuration on one host but NOT on the other. One

star --> tape
I just got an error using star to send an archive to tape. I know the tape works--I tested it with gnu tar yesterday. But when trying find /home -mount -depth -type f | star -c list=- -z f=/dev/st0 I got the error: star: can only copy files When I wrote to the tape with tar yesterday, tar -zcvf /dev/st0 /home/matt worked fine. And that star command works when the output destination if a file

Hi! Report from my multipath tests today. My test virtual machine, that runs from an NPIV pool, is not able to use multipath. When I pulled the cable from one of the targets, it crashed. But, strangely, it could boot up again on that other path, that it just crashed on. That tells me it can use both paths, and is not limited to one of them only, but because the multipath layer isn't

howto mount a scsi tape drive?
Hi, after installing centos 4.2 I've noticed that my internal Seagate scsi DAT 72GB tape drive hasn't been recognised in /media or doesn't show up in gnome when putting in a tape. Do I need to edit fstab first or load additional modules in the kernel during startup? regards, Geert -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Tape backup question.
Hello, I want to backup my PE2800 on tape but I'm not sure how to do this. My PE2800 has a RAID5 setup with 2 72GB SCSI disks and a Seagate DAT-2 72GB internal tape-streamer and I'm running Centos 4.3 with the latest yum updates. I'm not sure if this tape-streamer is recognised by the OS properly because it doesn't show up along with my DVD/floppy I also recieved with the

Overland Arcvault 12 and sequential/random settings
My unit's firmware: library 05.03, tape d22h, shows the device as set to random mode. But mtx -f /dev/st0 status gives an error that google says the device is in sequential mode. dmesg|grep -i hp does reflect CentOS thinks the device is a sequential unit. I've tried this with Fedora 8, too, and both show the same, so it is either an issue with CentOS/Fedora RPMs, or the version of

Replacement tape drive configuration
CentOS 4.8 Hi All: We recently had a Sony SDX-500V tape drive fail on one of our servers running CentOS 4.8. I have now replaced it with a spare SDX-500C. The problem that I am having now is that the failed drive had ceased responding to SCSI commands and we have since rebooted the system which resulted in the tape drive being removed from our current hardware configuration and the system does

SV: using samba to backup NT to unix tape drive ?
Hi! My suggestion: Use Amanda (www.amanda.org, cd /usr/ports/misc/amanda24 && make install with FreeBSD). It has support for smbtar. Haven't tried it myself, but I hear it's working fine. (I think I have seen a patch for gnu tar, that fixes the path length limit. I'm sure, though...) /Palle -----Ursprungligt meddelande----- Fr?n: Tony Jones <tony@rtd.com> Till:
