[PATCH nbdkit 0/4] tests: Move common functions into tests/functions.sh
Combine much common code into tests/functions.sh. Patch 1: Preparation for patch 3. Patch 2: Fix a long-standing bug in how man pages links are generated. Patch 3: Common code for iterating a test function over every plugin. Patch 4: Common code for starting nbdkit in a test and waiting for the PID file to appear. This is the largest and most complex of the patches but is

[PATCH v2 nbdkit 0/5] tests: Move common functions into tests/functions.sh

[nbdkit PATCH] tests: Don't strand hung nbdkit processes
We've recently been hitting a transient hung rpm build when using make 4.3, due to a bug in test-nbd-tls-psk.sh. We're still trying to isolate the correct fix for that bug (it might be in the nbd plugin proper, but more likely is an issue in libnbd's tls handling of connection close), but in the meantime, this patch should at least cause a graceful fail rather than make hanging due to

[nbdkit PATCH] tests: Test for faster shutdown
The test relies on the timeout program. Also, since the nbdkit_nanosleep code relies on the Linux extension POLLRDHUP to detect early client closure, we may have to relax that part of the test when porting to platforms that lack ppoll/POLLRDHUP. (That is, while we should still be able to let a signal to the server shut down nbdkit quickly, it's harder to let a client close()ing its end cause

[PATCH nbdkit] tests: Add generic requires function.
I only did a handful of the tests to demonstrate the point. If the patch approach is accepted then I'll do the remainder of the tests in v2. Rich.

[PATCH v2 nbdkit] tests: Add generic requires.
v1 was here: https://www.redhat.com/archives/libguestfs/2019-January/thread.html#00198 For v2 I changed most existing prerequisite tests to use the new mechanism. I only changed simple tests. There are a few more complex tests that don't fit the “requires model” and those are not changed. I normalized qemu-io/qemu-img testing to always use the --version flag, where previously we used a mix

[nbdkit PATCH] tests: Swap nbdkit process order in test-nbd-tls-psk.sh
We're still seeing sporadic failures of 'nbdkit nbd tls=', and I'm still trying to come up with a root cause fix (it may involve smarter use of gnutls_bye() in libnbd). In the meantime, here's what we know: when the hang/failure happens, the 'nbdkit nbd tls=' client process is stuck in a poll() waiting to see EOF from the server, while the 'nbdkit example1'

[PATCH nbdkit 0/5] protocol: Generate map functions from NBD protocol flags to printable strings.
With some crufty sed scripts we can generate functions that map from NBD protocol flags (eg. NBD_CMD_READ) to strings ("NBD_CMD_READ"). This works on GNU sed and with FreeBSD, also with GNU sed's --posix option, so I guess the sed code is POSIX-compatible. Rich.

[PATCH nbdkit 0/4] Multiple valgrind improvements and possible security fix.
I worked out why valgrind wasn't being applied to nbdkit when run by many of the tests (patches 1-2). Unfortunately I'm not able to make it actually fail tests when valgrind fails. Although the situation is marginally improved in that you can now manually examine the *.log files and find valgrind failures that way. Also adds valgrinding of the Python plugin (patch 3). Along the way I

[PATCH nbdkit 0/4] Add fuamode=pass and fuamode=discard
Two hopefully useful additions to the fua filter. The second one is kind of like cache=unsafe in qemu, in that it exchanges correctness for speed. Useful for data which is easily recreated in the event of a crash or for people who like living on the edge and have good backups. Rich.

[nbdkit PATCH v2] Introduce cacheextents filter
This filter caches the last result of the extents() call and offers a nice speed-up for clients that only support req_one=1 in combination with plugins like vddk, which has no overhead for returning information for multiple extents in one call, but that call is very time-consuming. Quick test showed that on a fast connection and a sparsely allocated 16G disk with a OS installed `qemu-img map`

[PATCH 0/2] build: Replace ./nbdkit with a C program.
This patch series solves the FreeBSD shebang problem in a completely different way, and a few other things besides. I propose that we replace ./nbdkit with a C program. The C program is a straightforward translation of the shell script. Some advantages of this approach are: - We can parse options in exactly the same way as the real program. - Use the more accurate ‘is_short_name’ test for

[PATCH nbdkit] tests: Convert some tests to use nbdsh instead of qemu-io.
Very much a work in progress as there are still many tests using qemu-io which are candidates for conversion. You'll notice at the end of test-full.sh that the new test has some duplicated code which looks as if it ought to be refactored into a Python function. When I tried to do that, I got loads of strange Python problems which may indicate bugs in nbdsh itself or problems with my

[nbdkit PATCH] nozero: Add notrim mode
It may be useful to test whether the client's use of NBD_CMD_FLAG_NO_HOLE makes a difference; do this by adding a mode to --filter=nozero to force a non-trimming zero write.
