Okay, I'm sorry, but that's the dumbest idea yet. If they didn't have Windows, why would they use Samba?

Firewall piercing - The Specified network name is no longer available.
Hi all. I'm trying to set up one of my Unix machines at home so I can access my stuff there via SMB from the Internet at large (read: from Windows-using clients'). I'm behind two NATting devices-- the lame-p Prestige DSL modem provided by Sprint DSL (a.k.a. Earthlink?) and a more typical home DSL/cable gateway device. I've poked holes in BOTH of these devices on ports 137, 138,

Questions on setting up icecast
yep, they simply forward the bitstream to icecast. And in general, bitrate changes are handled by most listening clients, although very few I have found (if any) can handle samplerate changes appropriately. oddsock At 10:03 AM 9/14/2004, you wrote: >You mentioned these programs and their "no-reencoding" mode. rpc and wine
can someone tell me how to get RPC and WINE to work in conjunction with one another? I have serious need to run an RPC application under linux's WINE port. If I cannot find a solution, I'm regretably going to have to change the OS to windows which I'd prefer not to do. Thanks, Chris

Questions on setting up icecast
What's the difference between bitrate and samplerate? Samplerate is like 44KHz or 48KHz? Hackers on my Web server
I have discovered that a gamer has hacked into my web server through a backdoor left open by my predecessor. I have closed the door, but when I try to delete the folders left behind I receive "Access Denied", or when I try to take ownership I receive "Unable to Find File...". I have removed most of the files to obtain enough space to continue operations but would like to remove

You mentioned these programs and their "no-reencoding" mode. Can they handle collections of MP3s of different bitrate? aggregate vs tapply; is there a middle ground?
Dear all, I'm wanting to do a series of comparisons among 4 categorical variables: a <- aggregate(y, list(var1, var2, var3, var4), sum) This gets me a very nice 2-dimensional data frame with one column per variable, BUT, as help for aggregate says, <<empty subsets are removed>>. I don't see in help(aggregate) how I can change this. In contrast, a <- tapply(y,

Questions on setting up icecast
Sorry, gang. The FAQ didn't seem to answer me, nor did Googling... I merely want a simple solution to do the following: I am setting up a streaming server for in-house use. I want it to broadcast the RAW MP3 DATA from my actual MP3 files, as I listen to them in xmms. In other words, I DO NOT want: XMMS ---> decode to wave ---> re-encode to MP3 ---> icecast ---> listeners I

OT: Is "Samba" an acronym?
http://us4.samba.org/samba/docs/SambaIntro.html Through his E'mail contacts, Andrew discovered that NetBIOS and SMB were actually (though nominally) documented. With this new information at his fingertips he set to work again, but soon ran into another problem. He was contacted by a company claiming trademark on the name that he had chosen for his server software. Rather than cause a fuss,

Ordering boxplot factors
Hi all, what a great help list! I hope someone can help me with this puzzle... I'm trying to find a simple way to do: boxplot(obs~factor) so that the factors are ordered left-to-right along the x-axis by median, not alphabetically by factor name. Complicated ways abound, but I'm hoping for a magical one-liner that'll do the trick. Any suggestions would be treasured. Thanks,

changing degrees of freedom in summary.lm()
Hello all, I'm trying to do a nested linear model with a dataset that incorporates an observation for each of several classes within each of several plots. I have 219 plots, and 17 classes within each plot. data.frame has columns "plot","class","age","dep.var" With lm(dep.var~class*age), The summary(lm) function returns t-test and F-test values

Possible bug in the fileserver: Does not follow symlinks
Hi gang: I am writing a function to manually install a package from the fileserver, without using the native package management system (in this case, yum). This is useful when we, for whatever reason, don''t wish to install the latest package from yum using the built-in support for installing packages. In the process, I''ve found what appears to be a bug. If a file does not

Multiple LUN support
Hi all... I have a scsi Tape library. Centos only sees the tape drive portion of the library. I need to enable Multiple LUN support to get the library and tape drive recognized. I am looking for some help enabling multiple lun support in Centos 4. I had a procedure on how to do this in the 2.4 kernel but it doesn't seem to work in the 2.6. Any help would be appreciated. work around for gcc bug?
Hi, On the virbis.com website, it is published that gcc needs to be upgraded to avoid a gcc bug. However, it is not easy to ask the ISP to upgrade gcc due to many reasons. (It will be hard to ask upgrade in any production grade ISP platform!) Can you develop some kind of work around? Say, use an configure option to bypass this bug. Thanks, Steve --- >8 ---- List archives:
