Okay, I'm sorry, but that's the dumbest idea yet. If they didn't have Windows, why would they use Samba?

Firewall piercing - The Specified network name is no longer available.
Hi all. I'm trying to set up one of my Unix machines at home so I can access my stuff there via SMB from the Internet at large (read: from Windows-using clients'). I'm behind two NATting devices-- the lame-p Prestige DSL modem provided by Sprint DSL (a.k.a. Earthlink?) and a more typical home DSL/cable gateway device. I've poked holes in BOTH of these devices on ports 137, 138,

Hackers on my Web server
I have discovered that a gamer has hacked into my web server through a backdoor left open by my predecessor. I have closed the door, but when I try to delete the folders left behind I receive "Access Denied", or when I try to take ownership I receive "Unable to Find File...". I have removed most of the files to obtain enough space to continue operations but would like to remove

Questions on setting up icecast
yep, they simply forward the bitstream to icecast. And in general, bitrate changes are handled by most listening clients, although very few I have found (if any) can handle samplerate changes appropriately. oddsock At 10:03 AM 9/14/2004, you wrote: >You mentioned these programs and their "no-reencoding" mode. Questions on setting up icecast
Sorry, gang. The FAQ didn't seem to answer me, nor did Googling... I merely want a simple solution to do the following: I am setting up a streaming server for in-house use. I want it to broadcast the RAW MP3 DATA from my actual MP3 files, as I listen to them in xmms. In other words, I DO NOT want: XMMS ---> decode to wave ---> re-encode to MP3 ---> icecast ---> listeners I

This environment includes Solaris / HP-UX / AIX and Linux We have had audit tell us we need to disable root logins through telnet... we can do this through the use of OpenSSH on all platforms except AIX apparently bug # 383 was supposed to take care of this and I have downloaded -current snapshot and tested but remote

aggregate vs tapply; is there a middle ground?
Dear all, I'm wanting to do a series of comparisons among 4 categorical variables: a <- aggregate(y, list(var1, var2, var3, var4), sum) This gets me a very nice 2-dimensional data frame with one column per variable, BUT, as help for aggregate says, <<empty subsets are removed>>. I don't see in help(aggregate) how I can change this. In contrast, a <- tapply(y,

Possible bug in the fileserver: Does not follow symlinks
Hi gang: I am writing a function to manually install a package from the fileserver, without using the native package management system (in this case, yum). This is useful when we, for whatever reason, don''t wish to install the latest package from yum using the built-in support for installing packages. In the process, I''ve found what appears to be a bug. If a file does not

work around for gcc bug?
Hi, On the virbis.com website, it is published that gcc needs to be upgraded to avoid a gcc bug. However, it is not easy to ask the ISP to upgrade gcc due to many reasons. (It will be hard to ask upgrade in any production grade ISP platform!) Can you develop some kind of work around? Say, use an configure option to bypass this bug. Thanks, Steve --- >8 ---- List archives:

GFP_BUFFER change to GFP_NOFS is not nice to symlinks
Hello Andrew, I fetched (CVS) ext3 latest changes (3 July 2001) which include changing GFP_BUFFER to GFP_NOFS and now have random troubles with symlink files on ext3 filesystems. >From my experience over the last days with Linus's changes I find that GFP_NOIO worked perfectly. Roaming Profiles -- Problem Rapidly Switching Users
Does anybody have any insight into what could be causing this strange problem? I have Samba 3.02 (sorry, can't upgrade right now). My Linux box is running Mandrake 10 Official. I have Samba configured as a PDC. I can successfully add machines to my Domain -- and log on as ANY user from ANY machine. However on a SINGLE MACHINE, when I log on as USER_1 and access that user's roaming
