hardware raid vs fake raid
Hi,
Does anyone know how I can find out if an ibm serveraid 8k sas storage
controller (zero channel RAID) is a real hardware RAID controller and
supported in the standard CentOs kernel or is it a fake raid controller.
I am trying to decide if I should get the serveraid controller or go get
a 3ware controller.
Regards,

RAID hard drive serial numbers?
smartctl, hdparm, and sdparm all are valuable tools to obtain hard drive
info. But, they don't seem to work, at least, on obtaining hard drive info
from drives on a Dell PERC controller. Instead, I'm given basic PERC
controller info, not drive info.
Is there a tool to let me get the hard drive make/model/serial numbers from a
hardware RAID setup?
Thanks.

windows xp install + fedora core 6
I am trying to install windows xp in xen.
The specs:
Intel 2 duo E6400, motherboard Asus P5B.
I can create a windows xp guest with virt-manager.
The guest boots and the install starts.
However after the first reboot, i see the bios screen shortly and after
that a black screen.
I have looked in tons of docs for the problem, but i never see a fix.
How has the answer to my problem?

It's at this point where I think about filing a full bug report with
llvm. Any hints before I do?

Samba and system 390 Unix system services
I am new to working with samba. We have used samba for years connecting
our windows systems to Unix systems services on OS390. Starting in and
around November 2002 we can no longer connect. I have gone through the
troubleshooting techniques. Our Samba system is up running, the mount
points are correct and the config file tested out correctly. If any one is
doing this could you please forward

LTO, ifuncs, and lld
Thanks for providing the patch! I got around to testing it this
morning and it appears it fixes compilation, but produces a
non-working system.
I know that's kinda vague and I'll have more details soon, including
sample binaries. I at least wanted to give a status update so you
didn't think you were being ignored.
Thanks,

PXELINUX LocalBoot 0 fail; hunting for bug
Recently, I decided to pull out a new model laptop for testing related
to my job at work. Dell Latitiude E6400, BIOS A14. Normally I have
it set to boot CD, USB, Net, then HDD and noticed that with
PXELINUX-4.02 and 'LOCALBOOT 0', it hung on me before leaving the PXE
stack. I then tried 3.86 and it worked. 4.00 and 4.01 both hung when
I tested them as well. Changing to 'LOCALBOOT

A program under WINE claims I don't have enough memory
I'm running Origin 7 Server (a scientific data & graph editing software)
under Ubuntu 9.10.
Installation was fine and I can read files and edit them, but as I try to
save the simplest thing (which takes less than a MB) the program claims I
have no disk space (I do have more than 10GB free).
I have a 64GB solid-state hard drive on my Dell E6400 laptop.
This problem persists no matter where

(semi-) rugged laptop running CentOS 5?
We're looking for a laptop to run in a 10,000', cold, occasionally wet
environment, and it needs to run CentOS 5. Perhaps something like the
Dell Latitude E6400 ATG? There's a reference to a minor trackball bug
for the 6400 under CentOS 5 (http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=4192)
but otherwise it sounds like the x86_64 version should run on it.
Ideally the system would use a SSD too.

[PATCH][git-pull] memdisk/dskprobe.c
git://git.zytor.com/users/genec/syslinux.git
Branch memdiskdbg-for-sha0
This starts with adding another check in two of the disk probes (by
Shao; Thank you), expands the debug output, adds an additional check
in the third probe and expands/reorders the debug output. At this
time, it appears to resolve the MEMDISK issues that Jason Vasquez
first noticed.
The additional check in the third probe

[LLVMdev] [lld] buildbot configuration on using -fsanitize options
FYI We have an upstream bootstrap bot (
http://lab.llvm.org:8011/builders/sanitizer-x86_64-linux-bootstrap) that
does a number of things including running llvm/clang tests under ASan/MSan.
Probably we can add a couple of steps that would checkout lld and run
check-lld in ASan-ified/MSan-ified build trees.

winbind withoutt PAM
As I understood from Samba documentation winbind can run without PAM
installed; PAM is needed only if I need interactive login in the Unix
box of NT domain users. Am I correct?

Mailing list archives
Hello,
I tried to search the samba mailing list archives located at:
http://us1.samba.org/search/smb-mail.shtml
But whatever I look for, I get the answer:
"No matches were found for"
I think that there *must* be at least some archived mail messages
containing the words "wins" or "browse". But I always get this message,
so it seems that there is a problem with

Another winbind question (hopefully easy one)
I setup SAMBA to use winbind to authenticate of a WinNT PDC
In the smb.conf I have a line
template homedir = /home/winnt/%U
which is file
I also use the pam module to create directories for
new users
pam_mkhomedir.so skel=/etc/sambaskel umask=0077
which is fine again.
My problem is that I can't tell or how do I tell pam_mkhomedir
to create the directories in /home/winnt/<user>
