hi,
i've setup wine with winetools and installed the baan cleint for windows. at
a first sight every thing seems to work. a closer look showed a font
problem. when you look at the atatched jpg's you can see, that the numbers
do not fit the entry field. compare linux.jpg and windows.jpg. i'm not
shure if this is a font problem or some thing else. sadly this is a

formula substitution by its calculated value
Dear R_Users,
I am confronted to a technical issue that I wouldn't even know how to start to handle and where to look at. It is about data manipulation in a dataframe and value substitution
Imagine I have a matrix describing a set of chemical equations.
Colnames are Components names and Rownames are Reaction names
Each cell in that matrix corresponds to the stoechiometric coefficient to the

sending a vector of characters as arguments for a function
Dear all,
It seems to be a recurrent problem to me and I am asking your help to
get over it once for all ...
My idea is :
I have variables C_1, C_2, C_3 ... that corresponds to vectors of size
n, and I would like to cbind them.
I get a vector of their names using : temp<- ls(pat="C")
And I like to find a way to use this vector temp as an argument to
cbind.

gplot problems with faceting
Dear R-Listers,
I am very confused with what seems to be a misuse of the faceting options with gplot function and I hope you might help me on this.
z contains various simulation results from simulations with different set of parameters.
I melt my data to have the following data.frame structure :
> str(z)

setGeneric?
In the last few days I've received couple of messages pointing out that our SparseM
package fails to install on the patched version of 1.7.0. Laurent Gaultier kindly
suggested that replacing:
setGeneric("as.matrix.csr")
by
setGeneric("as.matrix.csr", function(x, nrow, ncol, eps) standardGeneric("as.matrix.csr"))
was sufficient to fix the problem.

RE: XEN limit
Hi all,
Simple question, is there any limitations on XEN in terms of number of CPU sockets, cores, and memory ? For example HyperV has a limitation of 16 cores.
Many thanks

robustbase adjbox segfault - memory not mapped
Hi,
I encountered a segfault, memory not mapped error when using adjbox in
robustbase. In trying to recreate the issue I found that the error
occurs only for large sample size. Here is the code.

rsync-2.5.6 on AIX 4.3.3
Hi all,
After a few days of looking into why rsync-2.5.6 would not work when using
the "::" syntax on AIX 4.3.3, I discovered it is only the case when the
system is not patched. I patched my system to maintenance level 10 and it
works fine.
AIX 4.3.3.0 - not working
# uname -a
AIX host1 3 4 00070F3F4C00
# instfix -i | grep ML

RODBC Update image file into a MS-SQL database table
Hi,
I am creating some graphs which I want to update into a database table.
The procedure I am following is:
1. create the graphs as a png/jpeg file.
2. Read that file as a binary vector
3. sqlUpdate
My code:
pngfile <- file(<filename>, "rb")
N <- 1e6
repeat{
pngfilecontents <- readBin(pngfile, what="raw", n=N)
if(length(pngfilecontents) ==

difference between require and library
Hi,
Is there any other difference between 'require' and 'library' than the error or warning when the library is not found ?

ALLOCATE in a FORTRAN subroutine
> You can call (some) R functionality from C
When I read about 'R api' I thought that we could call all the functionality of R. I think that in the windows world, this is called OLE automation. From a pure programmer point of view, it is very convenient and my customer is creating a team of programmers. But, if only 'some' functionalities can be called, it's not so useful.

compile fixed, ssh-basic.test not working
Thanks for the help Jim.
I have found the testsuite stuff, and this in turn pointed me at
build.samba.org, which in turn told me that the build farm is using cc
instead of gcc.
I was able to get the compile finished with cc and make (rather than gcc
and gmake).
One thing to note: I could only get the ssh-basic.test to work by adding a
kludge and commenting out the "ThisShouldGo Line."
