version compatibility between linux and klibc
Are there any version compatibilities between linux and klibc? I tried to
compile the latest klibc (1.5.18) with the latest linux (2.6.32.15) and
there is miserable compile failures. It looks like klibc wants some headers
to be in include/asm (linked in my case to include/asm-x86) but they are
instead in include/asm-generic (it seems all headers but one are in there).
I put together this script

[PATCH klibc 0/2] Reproducible build
klibc currently builds and installs differently depending on the
locale and umask at build time. This series fixes that.

Build problems: klibc with Linux 3.10.7
Gauche as it may be, I am reviving an old thread from January:
http://www.zytor.com/pipermail/klibc/2013-January/003402.html.
Building Smoothwall Express 3.1 in a chroot jail works well. (gcc 4.7.2, linux
3.4.58, klibc 2.0.1, et alia).
I'm now working on 'express-next' to prepare for a future release (linux
3.10.7, klibc 2.0.2, et alia). Same build system, worked through some

[PATCH klibc 1/3] Revert " Kbuild: Tell gas we don't want executable stacks"
This reverts commit 9d8d648e604026b32cad00a84ed6c29cbd157641, which
broke signal handing on some architectures.
On m68k and parisc, signal return depends on a trampoline that the
kernel writes on the stack. On alpha, s390, and sparc (32-bit), we
can avoid this by providing our own function as sa_restorer, but we
currently don't.

[PATCH] Update header locations for uapi & generated
In the v3.6 kernel, many of the headers were split out into a uapi variant.
klibc should be using those variants to compile.
There is also a generated subdir, to seperate out generated headers.
The old kernel header location needs to be included as well, because
linux/compiler.h is available only in the base include directory.

- Renamed IMAGE_BASE to LD_IMAGE_BASE_OPT.
- Moved "-fcommon" to KLIBCREQFLAGS in scripts/Kbuild.klibc.
- Remove "dash" warning fixes which have been upstreamed.
- Conditionalize the inclusion of compiler flags by using the proper
compiler name or "cc-option".
- Added "-Werror" to "cc-option" to catch flags that cause warnings.

klibc-1.0.12 released
Hopefully I should be up to date with all patches; haven't integrated
the module-init-tools, and some of Erik's patches didn't make it for
different reasons, which hopefully can be resolved soon.
If you have sent another patch which I haven't applied, please do let me
know.

That actually seems to be by design. I always set
SHLIBDIR on the make command line, so it overrides that.

Bug#622814: klibc: patch to make klcc play nice with multiarch linux-libc-dev
Package: klibc
Version: 1.5.20-1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch
User: ubuntu-devel at lists.ubuntu.com

Hi maks,
Since the Ubuntu linux-libc-dev is now installing its asm headers to the
multiarch /usr/include/<triplet>/ directory to allow co-installability, I've
pushed the attached patch to Ubuntu so klcc knows to include this path when

To build klibc against kernel 3.4.3
It seems that a minor modification to usr/klibc/arch/$(ARCH)/MCONFIG is needed to build klibc successfully against kernel version 3.4.3. At lease the arch "arm" and "x86_64" have this issue. It is because that some include files are under "generated/asm/" in addition to "asm/".
