I'm a Samba newbie also so please bear with me.
I installed Samba 2.x under SuSE 9.0. It worked well for my simple setup
(home network with one Linux fileserver, one WindowsXP desktop, and one
WindowsXP laptop all connected via a 10/100 ethernet). When I upgraded
to SuSE 9.1, I was automatically upgraded to Samba 3.x. This still
worked with my original settings but something would go

on Suse OR is
it considered to be generally slow distro for all apps ? If slow for most
apps, how much

For a fast, lightweight and fun to use distro try ZenWalk, based on
slackware. You can download the ''core'' version to build the server with
just the packages you need...

Have fun!

My other criterions to replace XP as my main system have been passed by all the distros, but remains the last one: to be able to handle Lotus wk4-files. That is where I have my history.

command-line arguments in R
Hi All,
A simple and naive question from a newbie. How can one access command-line
arguments in R i.e. equivalent of argv in C?
Have spent a lot of time on finding it. Also, it will be useful if someone
can point me out to a resource which I could have used to answer this
question or similar ones.
Thanks,
Deepak

Help in getting aggregated data
Hi team,
I have the data of the form:
> a<- data.frame(x=c(1,2,1,4,3), y=c(1,2,1,4,3), z=c(1,2,3,4,5))
I need the output of the form
> b<- data.frame(x=c(1,2,3,4), y=c(1,2,3,4), z=(3,2,5,4) )
As you can see, the Z value contains the maximum for each of the (x,y)
combinations.
I used
> c<-by(a$z, list(x=a$x, y=a$y), max)
> c[,]

Seg. faults in mapthin
Hi everyone! I know segmentation faults are awfully hard to diagnose, but
I'm experiencing a fairly regular pattern of seg. faults when plotting using
map in the maps package. Starting R fresh, I run:
require(maps)
for (i in 1:50) {
cat(i, "\n")
map("state")
}
I always get the same result:
