do I have to worry if executing an exe that may contain a virus under Wine?
Hi, I have a question:
do I have to worry if I run with wine an executable that may contain a
virus (I am running linux as a normal user, not root)?

fst - err:dosmem:setup_dos_mem
I've installed (maybe not sucessfully) wine 20041201, fst 1.6 and
jack_fst-1.2.
I'm using jack-0.99
When I try and execute jack_fst such as:
#jack_fst Crystal.dll
I receive the following error:
err:dosmem:setup_dos_mem Cannot use first megabyte for DOS address
space, please report
can't connect to JACK
I assume that the first error message is from wine. Is that true? I

Problems authentication with NT PDCs in security = se rver (was security = user)
James:
(Again someone correct me if I'm wrong)
PAM allows local access to the Samba machine as well as authenticating
Samba users. Winbind *only* allows for Samba access. This is why I
chose *not* to use PAM in my setup. I don't want normal users to have
local logon access to *MY* servers. <evil grin>
With Winbind, you don't need PAM at all. If you're planning on

Testing before release (was: edit() doubles backslashes when keep.source=TRUE)
This perhaps diverges from the intent of the thread, but...
I wanted to say I'm extremely grateful to the people who go the
through the bug reports.
It's an extremely important job (in the long run, particularly), but
perhaps not quite as "sexy"-sounding as other roles, and probably
under-valued.
So, thank you to the bug-fixers...

Seagate floppy creator program doesnt work
Hi there,
http://www.seagate.com/support/disc/download/seatoold_en.exe
Seagate offers a Windows executable (needs Win98 or better, 1,9MB) that
should create 2 bootable floppy disks that contain a harddrive check
program.
Invoking "wine seatoold_en.exe" works, but when the floppy should be
written, an error occurs "insert 1.44 MB...click retry". I tried to
mount a DOS

Problems authentication with NT PDCs in security = se rver (was sercurity = user)
James:
I use Winnind to authenticate users from the Windows PDC - I have no
UNIX users.
Have you looked at this? I've got an informal HOWTO if you'd like it.

Problems authentication with NT PDCs in security = server (was security = user)
The interesting part is that PAM nor the SMB auth plugin for Apache
requires you to be a member of the domain.
However, the caveat with pam_smb_auth is that you have to have a unix
account for every windows user you want to authenticate.
I guess the behavior I'm trying to achieve is the one achieved with the
Apache plugin:
1) Doesn't require you to be a member of the domain

hm ...
About two weeks ago i was whining about an inode that got lost, now i'm going to whine more about strange things happening here.
A matroxfb just oopsed on me (thats not strange), the machine got unusuable, so i logged in from another and got the idea to touch /forcefsck. Upon reboot, fsck said that some inodes are in use but have dtime set and that some files are illegal sockets. Now this

The help on this list is horrible..... I am sorry for whining.

Whining about the raw driver.
Hi, I'm whining again about the inclusion of the raw driver in libao. Can
someone please commit the patch I posted in message:
http://www.xiph.org/archives/vorbis-dev/0098.html
(which will turn into http://www.xiph.org/archives/vorbis-dev/200103/0098.html
in 4 days.)
I've got people who want it included asking me what's the hold up.

Sipura 2100
I am wondering if anyone has sample XML config for the Sipura 2100 ATA.
We have been autoprovisioning our 2002s with success and the 2100's take
the same XML that we have come up with, but I am not sure of the syntax
for specific things that I need these boxes to do, such as turning T.38 on.
If anyone is willing to share their xml for autoprovisioning Sipura
2100's, it would be much

Fax with Asterisk and Sipura 2100
I know the subject of faxing has been covered in some detail, but I was
wondering if anyone has a hardware configuration similar to ours that
has faxes working successfully and would be willing to share any
settings/insight.
We are unable to fax reliably with a Sipura 2100 connected to Asterisk.
We do not route calls over the Internet and our network has very low
latency. The Asterisk

Tunnelling X for R graphics
Dear colleagues,
I run R on a few different machines, and view graphs and the like by
tunnelling X through SSH to my local machine. This is useful for me because
my local machine can't easily handle some of the data sets I work with.
However, when an ssh connection dies, the tunnelled X session also
dies, which breaks R's device connection, generating this error:

bcmxcp: stop whining (and log spamming)
corrupted checksums happen all the time with the 6-port serial card,
even when only using one port (and I don't give a shit about the other
ports, if anybody has a one-port laying around...)
so stop whining already.

Bad memory access in libtheora beta3
Hi,
I didn't get to the bottom of it, but Valgrind is whining
on libtheora when encoding a video to a 16 width or
16 height video. While you may think I'm weird for
encoding to such a size, I didn't care about the output
video, but I reckon it should work. The bad accesses
seemed to be of pixel data, in FilterVert__c, and in
FilterHorz__c (from memory), but I didn't investigate
