help with signal from monitor
What you're asking for isn't particularly clear... when DPMS is enabled, instead of suspending the monitor says "no signal" as if it had been unplugged? Or is something else going on? Then you talk about passing signals "up the chain" and "filtering"? What signals? What chain? Can you rephrase your question? -ilia On Tue, Jan 26, 2016 at 4:26 PM, don

System hang on Alienware 13 with NVIDIA GP106M
We've seen a number of power management and secboot issues with the Pascal-series mobile GPUs. Without a command line it is hard to debug remotely, but see, as one possible example: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=100228 Can you try booting with a kernel command line that includes "nouveau.runpm=0" as a debugging step. System hang on Alienware 13 with NVIDIA GP106M
I do not know how to debug this situation. Nothing appears in /var/log/messages. I miss the serial port:-( I executed a journalctl -r, and saw an error: kernel: nouveau 00001:01:00.0; Refused to change power state, currently in D3 The last message before reboot was: kernel: watchdog: Bug: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 22s! Hello, I have an Alienware 8 laptop that contains dual GeForce GTX 880M graphics GPUs with 16GB of video ram, as I understand it. I am running opensuse 3.2. At some times, like once every 10 boots or so, my system will hang on boot. Black screen shown. I looked at my /var/log/messages and there are numerous nouveau errors. I have attached a section of this output. I am willing to perform any

newbe guidance for Alienware 13
I had desire for a light laptop, so purchased an Alienware 13. I am currently unable to display on the external monitor, leaving me with the small 13" display. I am ignorant of how to proceed. I assume the Nouveau driver is being used, but am not sure. I it Intel or Nouveau? When I boot the following appears in dmesg: nouveau: detected PR support, will not use DSM nouveau

system unresponsive
In the past I've found that the console may have blanked (due to time) and when the system locked up/hung it won't unblank. Booting with "consoleblank=0" on the kernel command line will ensure that whatever is printed to the console (oops, panic, etc) will be there for you to see when you connect. I've had intermittent success in that type of situation with the SysRq key(s),

missing firmware report
I just built a linux-4.18.7 kernel from kernel.org for opensuse linux 42.3. When I issued the command "sudo make modules_install install" I received a series of error messages: dracut: Possible missing firmware "nvidia/gv100/sec2/sig.bin" for kernel module "nouveau.ko" dracut: Possible missing firmware "nvidia/gv100/sec2/image.bin" for kernel module

No functional changes. blank/unblank should work simliar to bochs (see commit 250e743915d4), that is maybe a nice thing to add of you modernize the driver anyway. take care, Gerd

Disable Kernel Screen Blanker
Hey Y'all, I'm trying to turn off the kernel screen blanker that shuts off the video after about 10 minutes of inactivity at the keyboard. After extensive googling I've found two ways to *NOT* do it. In my home .xinitrc setterm -blank 0 -powersave off -powerdown 0 xset s off In /etc/rc.local /usr/bin/setterm -powersave off -blank 0 I've tried both to no effect. Of course

system unresponsive
Ok, we used to get this occasionally on cluster nodes, and we just got it on a fileserver (very bad). The system is discovered to be unresponsive: it doesn't ping, and plugging a console in, you can see that it's not dead, but there nothing at all on the screen, nor does it respond to even <ctrl-alt-del>. The only answer is to power cycle it; it comes up fine. Nothing in
