Problem with strptime
Hello Forum,
I have a problem with the strptime function. With the ''data1'' dataset below
it works fine, but with the ''data2'' dataset something goes wrong (see final
line below). Both data1 and data2 are in exactly the same original format,
the only difference is that they span different dates. Please help, since it
is driving me nuts! Many thanks.

Shorewall Development Schedule
As Shorewall reaches maturity, it seems unlikely that the pace of
development typical of the past 9 years will be sustained. Over that
time, major releases have occurred approximately once per year; the last
major release (4.4) was in August 2009.
I do not currently have an active 4.5 development branch so it is very
unlikely that we will see a 4.6 release this year.

Timeout problem win2k -> linux
Hello,
First: I am not subbed to this list. - So any answers should be CC:ed to
me. Thank you.
I have a freshly installed debian woody linux box. With 2.4.18 with XFS
patch. - I have two drives (76G + 40G) that I have used LVM to get a
bigger single volume of.
It worked perfectly with scp etc. - But now when I installed samba I get
timeouts.

When I add a printer with windows: \\server\Name_printer, regulary all
printers on this server come with this syntax: Auto-Nameprinter on server.
I search in the configuration file but I can not find options that
will fix this
problem.
Thanks!

Fitting a model to a test set
Dear Forum members,
I have created a quasi-poisson model from a training dataset and now wish to
use the model to estimate y values for a test dataset, in order to validate
the model. The trouble is I can't figure out how to estimate y values for
the test set using the model derived from the training set. I've been
fiddling about with predict(), but can't seem to get the desired

using bootstrap for tree selection step in rpart
Hi
I was wondering if someone could help me with an rpart problem. I can see
that cross-validation is the default for tree selection in rpart -- has a
bootstrap method been implemented anywhere? I think this is a different
thing to 'bagging' or 'boosting' -- I still want 'one' tree at the end, I
just would like it chosen using a bootstrap method. Any ideas???
Thanks

Transformation of a data frame
Dear R-helpers,
Apologies in advance for this (probably) simple question. I've searched the
R Archive and can't seem to find a solution to my problem.
I have a data frame of vegetation quadrat data with the following format:
Q S C
1 A 5
1 B 10
1 C 50
1 D 10
2 A 20
2 E 10
2 C 40
3 D 5
3 F 1
3 G 5
3 B 75
Where Q is the sample (vegetation quadrats), S is the species and C is the

Creating a large matrix
Dear all,
I have a set of data that is 2 columns wide and 35,000 rows long (see
extract below). The first column contains codes for tetrads (2km x 2km
squares within NW England) and the second column has the names of moss
species present within each tetrad. I wish to convert this into a matrix
where rows are labelled by 'Tetrad', columns are labelled by 'Moss species'
and each

[LLVMdev] LLVM on Solaris/Intel?
Is LLVM supported on Solaris 10/Intel? I tried building the 2.7 pre-release
today but it failed to build (tried gcc 4.2 and 4.4). It fails trying to
link in one of the directories. Here's a small part of the make output (it's
huge):

I didn't see Solaris/Intel listed as a supported platform and I haven't ever
tried to debug LLVM build problems

Correct way to use quagga and shorewall
Hi,
I''ve setup quagga on a shorewall firewall server.
The only purpose for this is to use BGP to connect to a "peering platform" supplied by our data centre supplier.
There are some very large ISP''s (and other various providers including google) on this peering platform and connecting to it will speed up access to/from our services and hosted servers.

What changed in the R Windows interface from v2.6.2 to v2.7.0?
Dear R-devel,
I would like to launch the Rgui.exe from a Fortran console application (we
will call this FortranCon.exe), that I have written myself. To do this, I
send the command line "C:\Program Files\R\R-X.X.X\Rgui.exe" (where X.X.X is
the version number) as an argument to the
Windows API function CreateProcess (see
