adding winehq debian repository to apt-get | synaptic
I added the winehq debian repository to apt-get | synaptic
(I am running mepis 3.3) and would like to install those rather than the
debian official unstable builds
but
since the winehq repository is also marked as part of 'unstable' distro
I can't find a way to distinguish the wine / winelib provided by winehq
from the official ones (which would need the many winelib-* packages)

DVD Shrink and wine 20050111 vs 20041019
hallo
i'm running mepis (debian unstable) and if i install wine from the
regular (non-wine specific) deb repositories, I get wine 20041019.
if I install from wine.sourceforge, I get 200501011.
with the former, the application seems to lock up much more often.
with the latter, the ability to play the movie (e.g. to see which audio
stream to include) is disabled.

9.58 ies4linux busted: Repository with 9.44?
My debian Synaptic just updated me with winelib 9.58, which I should have been looking out for - because winelib 9.58 totally messes up internet explorer's display of pages with fixed backgrounds. (Repeated images, garbles everything). But winelib 9.44 is Ok, so I need to downgrade. Does anyone know of a repository that has winelib 9.44? Thanks.

Problem with d/loading Wine using Synaptic
Hi all -

I'm a first-timer here, and have been trying to install Wine from the
new "Wine for Debian users" site (I'm using Mepis Linux which is
Debian-based). I'm wanting to install the latest version (20050111-1),
and have used the "force version" option in Synaptic to do this.
I've tried this several times, but each time I get a "connection

Fund Manager (portfolio management software) seems to work
This is the first time I've used either Wine or the "Fund Manager" program from Beiley Software http://www.fundmanagersoftware.com/index.html . I found installation a bit confusing, but the program does work, and retrieves data from various sources somewhat as it's supposed to. Some of the help files don't show up as they should, but since they're also available

I changed the name of this thread so I can explain where apt is and when
it can be used in CentOS.
Apt is currently only supported in CentOS-4 and only on the i386 arch.
apt, apt-devel and synaptic are "extras" packages for CentOS-4.0 i386.
That means they are included

[ smbfs ] Does it support ACLS?
Hello there friends & foes,
I've had if with M$ windows! Next week I'll sabotage my shop (how 'bout
password protecting dualboots on WS) and force LINUX down my users' throats
;-) (oh, don't I like this tone... makes me feel Billy G.) Oops, showstopper!
ACL enabled network filesystem, where is it? I can't go with alpha code nfs4,
so is there a patch to the smb

Winetools 0.9 for Debian now in the winehq Apt repository
I haven't tested it much, so let me know if it mysteriously breaks, but
winetools 0.9 is now in the winehq Apt repository.
I had to rename it 3.0.9 so it'll properly replace older versions of
winetools (2.x). Oh well.
Thanks,

adding winehq to apt repository
The instructions use the character O or is it 0, you cannot tell by looking at the
screen or a printout.
Another ambiguity is the command (s?):
sudo wget http://wine.budgetdedicated..........
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/winehq.list
Is this one long command continued on two lines, or is it two commands?
I am not in the sudo list on my stock debian/etch installation, and do not wish to take
three

dendrograms
Hello all,
I am using libraries (mva, cluster) to produce dendrograms. With 1000
examples the dendrogram gets too crowded, and i am wondering whether there
is an option (which i cannot find) to set the number of leaf nodes, like
in matlab, and return the plot and the assignment map examples -> leaf
nodes. Any suggestion is appreciated. Thanks

Fisher LDA and prior=c(...) argument
hello,
I am using LDA and QDA function of MASS library. I understand Fisher LDA
is a method non-probabilistic in nature, so I wonder what happens when I
try to predict my test set examples as in:
> fit <- lda(labels~., data=train.table, prior=c(.5,.5))
> pred <- predict(fit, data=test.table, prior=c(.5,.5))
Specifically I ask this because in my problem there are 700 examples

A Problem : Can NOT install APT or Synaptic for v4.0
Hello,
There was no problem installing "APT" package in
CentOS 4.0 Beta, but so far I could not install
APT or Synaptic by "# yum install apt" or
by "# yum install synaptic" in a usual manner.
Is there any solution for this?
It seems to me, something is wrong only for these
two packages.
Regards.

winehq.org winebuild docs outdated?
Hello
I'm trying to follow the instructions on
http://www.winehq.org/site/docs/winelib-guide/spec-file, but the
"-spec" option is apparently no longer supported by winebuild??
My .spec file is called "device.spec" and contains one item:
    init WinMain
I've tried to get winebuild to accept this file in a number of ways and
the farthest I've got is with this:

Install latest R version from apt on Lenny

May be you should add in your mail the file :
/etc/apt/sources.list (I suppose there might be a typo, as IT addresses are long and booring, and AFAIK, correcting a typo one made is **very** difficult).
