question on simple graph
I am having trouble generating a graph.
I want to know the % of respondents who answered that they "strongly
agree" or "agree" the "America owes R's ethnic group a better chance"
(BTTRCHNC) and I want to organize it by racial group (RACESHRT).
"BTTRCHNC" is organized ordinally from 1 through 5 with 1=Strongly

spss long labels
Hi,
A frequently seen issue with importing SPSS data files, is that R does
not import the 'long variable names'.
I built a patch on the R-project's foreign module, in order to import
the 'long variable names' from SPSS (record 7, subtype 13).
To complete the job, I had to expand the "struct variable" definition
to have 64 +1 charachters. I'm not aware of side

question on lmer function
suppose something like probability(passing test) is driven by
1. fixed effects -- sex
2. district effects - district funding
3. school effects - neighborhood income, racial composition, % two parent
families, ...
4. class effects - teacher quality measurement,
5. individual random effects - IQ.
how would such a model be setup in lmer? I can't find much discussion on

Theil decomposition
I came across the package 'ineq' that computes a variety of inequality measures (e.g. gini, theil etc). I want to compute the Theil index (racial segregation) and decompose the total into sub-components (by geog levels). I think the package doesn't report the decomposition (correct me if I'm wrong). Just wonder is that available elsewhere?

Microsoft KB835732 Update Disrupting Samba Connections
I'm not 100% sure it's that WinXP KB835732 update but it's the only thing
that has been changed in the last two days. Machines are regularly losing
their network connections, mapped drives, and printers, leading to lockup
and crashes. I found this in the samba logs of the affected machines.

using latticeExtra plotting confidence intervals
I am wanting to plot a 95% confidence band using segplot, yet I am wanting
to have groups. For example if I have males and females, and then I have
them in different races, I want the racial groups in different panels. I
have this minor code, completely made up but gets at what I am wanting, 4
random samples and 4 samples of confidence, I know how to get A & B into one
panel and C&D in to

logging volumes
Hello!
I?m in the process of migrating from BincIMAP to Dovecot, and I have a
minor question. One of the things that Binc does is logs how many
bytes of data it has sent as part of logging the log-out. Is there a
way to get Dovecot to do that, or to calculate something similar?

random effects in logistic regression (lmer)-- identification question
Hello R users!
I've been experimenting with lmer to estimate a mixed model with a
dichotomous dependent variable. The goal is to fit a hierarchical
model in which we compare the effect of individual and city-level
variables. I've run up against a conceptual problem that I expect one
of you can clear up for me.
The question is about random effects in the context of a model fit

Kickstarter
Kickstarter has proven its efficiency, many games and other programs were sponsored and created because of crowd funding. So, why not to use it for Wine? There are some major missing and complex features like D3D10/11 support and there are games like Battlefield 3 that only support DX10. Implementing these libraries would allow running other new games as well.
I propose hiring fulltime developers
