Samba BDC and secrets.tdb question
I have a question about setting up a samba BDC (with a samba PDC). I am running Samba as the PDC on a small network. Other Unix boxes on the network are running with: security = DOMAIN encrypt passwords = Yes update encrypted = Yes password server = 192.168.1.5 So they make use of the PDC for smbmount and smbsh applications. The W2K box also uses Samba at the PDC. I want to set up a Redhat

Smbmount for Solaris 8?
I see that smbmount is for Linux only. I have a need for a Solaris 8 Sun to see a Win2k shared volume, currently as read-only. So I have a few questions: - Is there a read-only capability of smbmount for Solaris 8? - Is there a Solaris 8 version of smbmount in development? Is so, when would it be released? - Can you name any commercial packages that offer the ability to mount NTFS file

Configure parameters for Redhat Linux 7.1
Redhat Linux will install and configure Samba Currently 2.2.1a. The pieces are not placed in /usr/local/samba/... Does anyone have the configure parameters that would allow a "make install" of Samba 2.2.2 to put everything in the right place? I could not find this in the archives. Also, it appears smbsh is still broke in Samba 2.2.1 for Redhat 7.2. Is this known to be the case?

SAMBA and network security (Try 2 without HTML)
I did not mean to send the previous question in HTML. I wish to solicit information and comments. I am attempting to convince our ITS department to create trust accounts for the Samba server nodes on some of our lab machines which sit across an internal firewall from the corporate network. My purpose is to access UNIX files on the samba servers from PC's connected to the corporate lan.

Controlling Samba with xinetd
Hi all Just a query from a fellow tech who's playing with Samba. He just asked me the following question, it's something I've never really thought of, but on the face of it could be worth further investigation. Any thoughts?? TIA <snip> Was doing some research last night on high availablilty - led me to a thought which I have seen around before but decided it was not

Newbie -- Program ereg32.exe has encountered a problem
My first attempt using Wine. I have "successfully" installed Broderbund Calendar Creator 9 on Ubuntu 10.4 AMD64. Trying to execute the Broderbund 'register' program results in a message that the program ereg32.exe has encountered a severe error.. and closes. Trying to execute 'calendar.exe' results in about 20 seconds of attempting to execute and then nothing. Any

CentOS 5 Beta dual boot with FC7T2 (unsatisfying)
To test CentOS 5, I loaded from DVD adding it to a system at home running Fedora Core 7 T2. Partition Layout is: /dev/hda1 - / for the RH7T2 system /dev/hda2 - /home /dev/hda3 - swap /dev/hda4 - extended /dev/hda5 - / for CentOS 5 The system loaded cleanly and gave me the opportunity to tell grub about the other system. CentOS boots fine. Grub Stage 2 will show me both systems.

Xorg problem
I was also successful with 7 computers, however they run version 6.7. For some reason this one computer upgraded to 6.8 and Xorg does not work. I also changed to 3 different terminals and it did not help. I am not giving up yet. Need help
I am also using CentOS, but to get a bug fixed, you have to go upstream to RedHat. I think John Pierce is right, I had to change my run level to get the alternate consoles to work. I still have the machine at run level 3 hoping that a bug fix lets me go back to run level 5. Other machines work fine, just the 2 with the MACH64 video on the motherboard will no longer run X. CentOS 5 Beta - Yum Updates?
I am new to CentOS. I mostly use Fedora Core. I installed the CentOS 5 Beta on a test machine from the DVD. I configured it with both KDE and Gnome. I am using the default YUM configurtion which loaded with the DVD. Unlike FC7T2, CentOS 5 Beta does not seem to pick up Yum updates. Is this by design or do I need to add repos to my /etc/yum.repos.d? Thanks for any suggestions Bob Styma

Unresolved references in libnetsnmpagent.so
Hi, I am running an up to date centos5.9 system. The package, net-snmp-devel-5.3.2.2-20.el5 Contains among oteher things: /usr/lib/libnetsnmpagent.so When I link with this library (-lnetsnmpagent), I get a bunch of unresolved references.: My Google searches has not given me hints to where the C to Perl library exists. I would guess that yum would have loaded the correct package as a

mach64 driver, latest update in CentOS 6.8, symbol lookup error
I am loading a server from the CentOS 6.7 ISO and then upgrading. After loading at release 6.7, the machine behaves normally. After running yum update, the X server will not start. Attempts to start it manually result in one of the following messages depending upon which OS is loaded. I initially loaded it as 64 bit and when that did not work I tried the 32 bit version of the OS. The
